Sunny Side Up Bakery Fondant

I typically use Satin Ice fondant for my cakes and I buy it at Hobby Lobby. I went today to purchase a tub and they have discontinued Satin Ice products at their store and now have their own brand of fondant tubs. Has anyone tried the Sunny Side Up Bakery Fondant? How does it taste/hold up? I have cakes to be delivered tomorrow morning, so I drove the 30 min to a cake specialty store to buy my Satin Ice. I'm afraid to try it on a customer's cake for the first time.

I was wondering the same thing! It's so much cheaper to buy fondant at Hobby Lobby because you can use the coupon! Ordering online sucks because of shipping

There was recently a discussion about this very thing. Here is the thread on it. Sounds like it is just repackaged Satin Ice.

AIt is just repackaged satin ice. Go ahead and buy it :). It's been confirmed

Thank you so much!!! That's great but I wish the price was cheaper. Same price for a generic brand....

AIf youu use the 40% of coupon it's like $14 here for 5 pounds. That's cheaper than any of the commercial fondants here (Houston,TX)

Yeah that is what I pay with the coupon. Since it is a generic brand it just would have been an even better deal if it was cheaper

I bought Sunny Side Up Bakery Fondant last week, it's been a nightmare!
Soooo soft, I had to add a cup of powder sugar.. A CUP!
It never happened before with Satin Ice..
Even if it's made in the same factory it doesn't mean it's the same quality.
I think I'm going to try to make my own fondant and, if it doesn't work well, I'll order some Satin Ice from Webrestaurant!

Lol yeah I see it now, I never would have thought to look. "Manufactured by Satin Fine Foods, Inc." TheItalianBaker has me nervous now though! I bought some today to do a test trial....fingers crossed!!

Sorryyyyyy!!!
let me know how it works for you, it might be my home, very hot and no ac :/

AThat's probably it lol. I have the AC blowing here and it was fine

I colored the fondant last night and made some figures, it worked just like the Satin Ice. Haven't covered the cakes yet but it worked just fine for me. Anytime I work with cake related stuff my AC is on. I tried to do it once without AC (it was so cool outside) and it was a NIGHTMARE. Way too much humidity where I live. I will let you know how covering the cakes goes

I tried it also and it was very soft. I struggled with it to just cover a regular sheet cake that was a 12x18x5. It stuck together after I rolled it on the rolling pin to cover the cake which made it end up with a big hole on the top of the cake. Luckily for me I was able to cover the hole with a edible picture. I do not see myself purchasing that fondant again. I will drive further just to get the original Satin Ice from my cake decorating supply store. It is worth it for me and my customers. I do believe that it is a lesser quality of fondant but yet they expect you to pay the same price.

AI can't believe you guys are having so many issues!! That really sucks. I just used it yesterday and had no problems. I have had to use a little bit of cornstarch. But that's it. I knead it for about 3 minutes.

I have been working out of the Sunny Side Up Bakery 5lb. bucket and I have not had any problems. Seems like the same thing as the Satin Ice to me. No complaints here so far!

I think I'm going to mix it with MMF, like that for me just doesn't work

Quote:
So mmf does ok in your house without the ac? Man, at my house if its not on 73 its a sticky mess!! Let me know how the mixing goes!! If it works for you Id like to try it
I didn't try yet actually! I watched a tutorial few days ago aout making MMF and mixing it with some store bought one!

AI have never used Satin Ice or Hobby Lobby brand I always use Wilton and they changed their recipe and now is a little softer. I decided to try the hobby lobby brand bcause Hobby Lobby Is not carrying wilton either. It's been a nightmare everytime u try to color the fondant it doesn't take the color I can't get my black black or my red to look red... any suggestions or comments appreciated...

AI have Red with it. But it's probably just a good idea to buy those colors. They are incredibly difficult to achieve from white no matter what fondant you use

I like the satin Ice , I have had success with the hobby lobby brand also. I have even made my own fondant at some point and that was the only time it was a little soft but not horrible. its just much faster to buy it .
