AAw guys, look how much I've had to read through!

Yes I remember the name Relznik some time ago but hiya now your on here, now consider myself a talker but sometimes even I cant keep up.

Maisie I know you love your little girl with all your heart, no matter what.

I'm with you there roxy, I thought it was a wedding cake too are you nervous about it then kuuushi? Cant see why you would be giving how good you are.

Roxy, love love love your ship its a grown up ship I think, something magical about it, like it came out of the Bermuda triangle.

Jean I think the colour of your cake is stunning, I can see what you meant when you asked about my colour for Sarah's cake 1000 pages back, yours is a lot deeper.

How is your friend now Jean? Is she on the mend and out of hospital?

Gray, how is your gorgeous kitty? Love cats had 3 at one point.

Pretty flowers kuuushi, which cake are these for?

Sorry if I left anyone out.

Oh tiddy, what master piece have you conjured up today?

Thanks Nanny, Sugarluva and Petitecat, it was a 10" square to start with, the instructions in the book made a taller smaller cake so I took some from the height and made it longer instead if that makes sense. I think your right Nanny it is a more grown up ship, isn't it funny how we look at cakes

Are you banned from the cake room tomorrow to Tiddy or are the dummies calling to you going to win before then?  What are you planning on trying next or just see what comes?

CRIKEY!  I'll do my best to keep up, but....  wow!

Grey - I must confess I haven't got any further with it yet.  But it's on my 'to do' list...  you know, the long, long, long 'to do' list that we all seem to accumulate!

AKuuushi, Someone has more faith in you than you do in yourself or they wouldn't have asked you to make it. Look at the help on here, no one will let you fail No more talk like that ok?

Tiddy, bet thats killing you staring at dummies? Get a move on then you have 2 half left, ha ha.

Roxy, thats the ship you gave me instructions for isn't it? Bet it killed Mr Roxy to cut I and worse give it to people who maybe dont appreciate the work gone into it. Did you make it cos you just love him or is it his birthday?

Thanks Catsmum.

Yes Nanny that's the ship I gave you the instructions for I just changed it and made it my own. I made it for Mr Roxy for a belated father's day cake because I was making the big holy communion pillow so didn't have time to make him one at the time. He normally just wants a round chocolate ganached cake but I have wanted to try the ship for ages and knew he'd like it so thought I'd surprise him since he waited for it. He didn't want to cut it so I had to and he certainly didn't want to share it, it was only going to my mum and brother and luckily they do appreciate all the work I put into my cakes, they actually have photo's of my cakes on their phones and show people all the time. My mum is also the one who bought me my airbrush as well as other bits for my cakes.

Fab ship Roxy! Didnt have time to look at the pics earlier but great job ;-D

Hi Reznik :-D

Kuuushi I lurve those flowers! I made some orchids and a few fillers so I may use those on the deep dummies ;-) and I think I may try the brush embroidery on the pillows although I may live to regret that as there are 4 of them! I also have some turrets coming so look out for castles galore haha! As you have probably guessed I am trying to push the wedding cake side of things a bit (obviously not the castles although you never know!) but my craving for carved spontaneous just wont go away

Sometimes I look at the baked cake and its like those doodles you used to do..you know...draw a squiggle and give it to someone to make a picture ...thats me with naked cake!

AI have some cupcakes to make for tomorrow, it was abit difficult to know what to do as its for a man, he loves bikes, so I made some discs and made tiny motor bikes, with my tiny cupcakes letters, airbrushed half of the discs, and some of the letters, then she wants some with swirls and choc on top, odd!

ARoxy, I love love love your pirate ship! Sorry I'm MIA this week. Work is INSANE! My reports went in for proofing tonight though so am almost back to normal - thankfully! Have a three tier cake to do for a tattoo parlour's 5th anniversary next weekend, so planning to get some of the decorations done this weekend if possible. Have free reign, so thinking sugar skulls (a la Cinco de Mayo) and roses. Thoughts? And any recommendations on a skull mould? Can't find any I like on eBay, Etsy, etc...

Thanks Marvel nice to see you back. That cake sounds fab can't wait to see it. I've not seen any skull moulds so can't help you with getting one but if you can't find one maybe you could find a keyring or toy that you could make a mould from, don't know how big your wanting it but there is a shops that sell stuff like skulls and goth things you might be able to get something from to help and get ideas from.

Marvel I used this one on my Halloween cake in my pics. Not sure of the size you are wanting but I loved the detail on it especially after dusting. http://www.sugaricing.com/ProductPage.aspx?productID=5496

AMorning guys. I am furious this morning, not sure why. May be the fact I just read an article about dummy cakes being used for weddings and cake being supplied on sheet pans to serve to guests.

Sorry but to me the only real money that needs to be spent on the wedding is bride and groom outfits, the venue and the cake. Everything else shouldn't be so expensive that you cut corners on a cake!

To me a cake is a symbol of sharing your day with others that mean a lot to you. Eating the same cake specifically bought for the wedding. I just feel it's bizarre why that isn't as important as the chair covered and sweet shop for the kids. Or am I just too old fashioned in my ways?

I see people spending upward of £3k for the venue for half a day, £1k on catering, £2k on the dress and suit, £1k on flowers for the bouquet and venue, £1k on dresses for bridesmaids and keeping them happy. A further £4k on the honeymoon and not forgetting the wedding committee sorting out their chairs, balloons and everything else!

But then you come in with £700 for their 5 tier cake with all flavours under the sun, with 100 hand made matching flowers for their dress and it's like "Excuse me? For cake?" ARGH it just infuriates me!

Sorry guys. Rant over!

ACompletely agree kuuushi. I don't make or sell cakes and have never made a wedding cake but a lot of my friends have been getting married over the last few years and it's so disappointing going to a wedding and not seeing a beautiful real cake stood there that they cut during the day at some point. I think too much is spent on weddings these days but like you say there are a few important things that should cost money and the rest is trivial.

I have been to friends weddings who have a dummy cake with a sheet cake like you mentioned, one who had a gorgeous real cake but it never got cut (goodness know what she did with it all) and one who had a very beautiful, extravagant wedding with some shoddy looking cupcakes for her cake. Now I get the attraction in having cupcakes sometimes and maybe cake pops but they weren't very nice cupcakes! I recon she got a friend to just knock them together for her haha.

I'm not one who thinks all wedding traditions should be upheld, some are pretty old fashioned now, but the cutting of the cake is definitely something I think people should still do!

AOh and whilst I'm on a roll haha... Why is it OK to spend so much on flowers when they're going to die soon anyway, but people won't spend a lot on 'just cake'?

Argh I've been trying to finish this message and keep getting interrupted. I've got a few minutes while the ganache sets up. Wish it would hurry up.

Roxy congrats on being in favourites :) Would you mind PMing me the instructions? Just in case, I like to be mentally prepared for these type of orders!

Maisie, your daughter and family are lucky to have a mum/granddaughter/niece/ like you :) You're a star!

Kuushi, keep us posted on your customer. I really hope they have a big budget and you can make that cake!

Thanks Kathy, I was trying to match Wedgwood blue. I stopped when I got close enough as colouring fondant isn't my strongest point! Ness is still in hospital. She is physically fine, but mentally it's like she has dementia and no one can say if it's permanent or not.

Tiddy, you actually didn't spontaneously combust when you didn't do any cakes yesterday??!! I was convinced you wouldn't be able to hold out. Methinks you're addicted LOL

Nanny, can't wait to see tiny motorbikes!

Marvel, how about making the top tier an actual skull cake on your 3 tier cake? You could make it out of cake or RKT. Or if you're feeling adventurous, middle tier is a skull, top tier is a top hat for the skull. Not sure about the bottom though...

Sugarluva, that's a great point about the wedding flowers! Kuushi, I know what you mean. Maybe one day people's ideas about cakes will change for the/our better!

Off to check my ganache!

Oh before I go, I'm wondering if anyone's done a ball cake, how much do you think I should cut off the bottom to make it flat enough and make it all stable? Should there be about 3-4" diameter on the bottom (IYKWIM)?
