I was at a home show this past weekend and tried some great icing.
There are multiple flavors. All of them taste great, are extra creamy, and seem really easy to use. It is made in Omaha and sold at area Hy-Vee's and Bakers. I think I'll go buy some tonight. She has a price comparison on her website.

If anyone has tried Dixie's Icing, please let me know what you think. I think I'll use it for a couple birthday cakes I have coming up.

Just thought I would share.

I've used it and it's very easy to smooth. It taste good but I don't like it as well as my homemade BC.

I absolutely love Dixie's icing. I get it whenever I can. It is great for decorating as well as icing a cake.

Dixie made my wedding cake back in 1994. It was soooo beautiful and I remember going into her studio to taste her cake and loving the icing so much.

She actually quit making cakes and just makes icing now. It's worth a try...and yes...it reminds me of my wedding cake...

Wow, I actually tried Dixie's icings and I didn't like it! What's wrong with me? I thought it was extremely chemically tasting. Did I just get a bad batch of samples?

I bought a sampler of Dixieâs Icing after I saw it mentioned on the CC COOKIES FORUM. I was really just looking for a good cookie icing, but the almond flavored cake decorating icing is the one that I absolutely blew me away! I really liked almost all of the samples, but the almond one is the first pre-made icing good enough to make me consider giving up my own recipe. Itâs really creamy for smooth icing, and holds up nice for decorating and borders.

I experimented with all of the samples on one cake, even the cookie icing icon_lol.gif The Vanilla, Almond, and Chocolate are all about the same smooth creamy texture. I even made a couple chocolate roses just to try it. It tastes like real chocolate, not that chemical taste. The two pre mixed colors were red and black. Probably the hardest colors to make! Even those dark colors tasted great, and not like eating a jar of gel paste.

The cookie icing is really sweet (maybe even too sweet to be used on a cake) and a lot stiffer then the cake icings. It definitely does not work like the others for smooth icing, but you can do some excellent roses with it. I only had a very small amount left over to try on the cake since I used most of it experimenting with it on cookies.

Personally, I thought the special recipe one was a little too sweet and a bit to soft for decorating, but it says that it is for decorating ice-cream cakes and I tried it at room temperature. I assume it would taste completely different with Ice cream and 40 degrees colder.

If you plan on using it for decorating cakes, try the almond or vanilla flavors thumbs_up.gif

I wonder why I'm the only one that thought it tasted bad? And it wasn't just a preference thing, it was so chemically I couldn't get past it, even the kids didn't like it. I wonder if it was shipped next to something it shouldn't have or something? So weird! Usually a agree with most of the taste preferences here on CC. Maybe I'm just a freak on this one!

I wonder if we are talking about two different products? icon_confused.gif I noticed the second message posted under this topic says âDixie's Finest Whipped Icingâ, but other messages just say âDixie's Icingâ. Are âDixie's Icingâ and âDixie's Finest Whipped Icingâ the same company or the same product? Because it doesnât say whipped anywhere on the label of the one that I got, and I would not really consider it to be a âwhipped icingâ. It was fluffy, but not whippy like Bettercream.

I know that if you look at the ingredients on most of the pre-made whipped icings you see all kinds of chemicals. None of those chemicals are listed on Dixieâs, and I didnât taste even a hint of any.

If they boith come from Omaha, NE they are the same as that is where her kitchen is. It should say on the label where it is made.
