Volcano And Lava Cake
I've always wanted to make a volcano cake; complete with smoke and lava pouring out of it. I love surprising my son and I knew a working volcano cake would blow his socks off! The "lava" was colored candy melts and the "rocks" were truffles rolled in cocoa powder. They were delicious!!

Lego Brick Cake
I made this square cake into a Lego brick for my son's 5th birthday party. It's two layers baked in a square pan, then I baked an additional one layer cake, and cut out 2" circles with a pastry cutter. I rolled out fondant and measured the sides and top of the cake and cut out corresponding pieces to cover the cake with. I rolled long strips of fondant to wrap around the mini cakes on top. It looks very sloppy because I ran out of fondant the night before the party, and the stores didn't open up until 9am the next morning, and the party started at 10am! Did the best I could in the time frame I allotted myself.

Shark Fin Cupcakes
Perfect for Shark Week! I made these for a beach house family gathering. The shark fins are made out of black fondant and white gumpaste and let sit overnight. The life preserver is white gumpaste with red fondant and I used a black food writer pen (Wilton) to hand write the "S.S."

Angelina Ballerina Cake
I made this cake for my friend's daughter who is turning 2 yrs old. This is the first time I've ever molded a licensed character. I used gumpaste and fondant. The cake is a behemoth - it's a 12" round, 3 layer cake! And this is the first time I've covered a cake this large with fondant! The flowers are made out of fondant, as is the sign and letters. I took inspiration from this cake ( http://thenocturnalbaker.blogspot.com/2011/02/angelina-ballerina-again.html ), by the Nocturnal Baker, but created that sign out of inspiration from the DVD movie box cover.

Super Hero Cake
This is a super hero themed birthday cake that I made for my friend's son's 4th birthday. He LOVED it and cried when it was cut! I offered him up an edible building to ease the heartache. The black buildings were made with fondant, the gray buildings were made with black fondant and white gumpaste. Windows are fondant, as well. The sound effect bubbles are also made with fondant. They are double layered, so the "Steven" bubble was extra heavy because it was so big and I had a hard time getting it to stick to the side of the cake. I finally had to use both frosting and piping gel to get it to stick. Captain America's shield was also made of fondant, as was the Batman sign. My friend wanted me to combine Captain America, Batman and the Hulk, so I covered the cake in green fondant to represent the Hulk. Next time I would do blue buttercream dots around the bottom edge of the cake, instead of grey, to tie in the blues on the top and sides of cake. But overall I'm happy with how it turned out and the kids loved it!

Pirate Birthday
This is a cake that I made for my son's friend Nicky's 4th birthday. It's a pirate themed cake with a white chocolate candy skull. I poured the red and black candy first, then the white chocolate, into the mold. Then painted the gold with gold disco dust mixed with vanilla vodka. Black fondant rolled cannonballs. Wilton sugar paper letters and red stripes. I also added gold disco dust to the yellow batter, and the cake looked very glittery!

Garden Critters Cake
I made this garden critters cake for my neighbor's 3-yr-old daughter's birthday. Note the lack of a bumble bee. This was because her daughter had been stung by two bees in two instances within the last two weeks. The daisies, butterflies, birdhouse, worm, caterpillar, snail, slug, ladybug, fence, toadstools, and miniature roses decorations were all made out of fondant or a gumpaste fondant combo.

Ninjago Cake
This is a Ninjago cake that I made for my friend's son's birthday. This is an 8" cake on a 10"x14" cake board, covered in fondant. The flame medallion is made from fondant, hand cut and drawn on with a food writer pen. The letters are fondant made from a Wilton letter mold, with real Lego bricks to dot the "i"s and the exclamation point, all sitting on a strip of black fondant.

Feather The Nest
The cake was made for a "Feather the Nest" themed baby shower. The mom-to-be isn't going to be finding out the sex of the baby, so we filled the egg in the nest topper with blue and pink mini-eggs. Red Earth cake, vanilla buttercream, and Wilton fondant, colored with Wilton gel food coloring. I also used a Wilton fondant mold to create the birds, flowers, tree, branches and leaves.

Western Cakes
The top cakes were white velvet with strawberry buttercream frosting, and the bottom tiers were made with my Gramma Jewel's famous Red Earth cake recipe with dark chocolate buttercream frosting. The horseshoe and sheriff's star toppers were made out of gumpaste, then painted with silver and gold dust mixed with vanilla vodka. The daisies were also made out of gumpaste and royal icing. The bandana was real because the fondant one just wasn't working.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake
For my son's second birthday party. And my very first attempt at fondant. Surprise! There's a rainbow inside! Top tier is a triple chocolate cake, with chocolate chips in the frosting, hence the bumps under the fondant. Bottom tier is a rainbow cake. Fondant decorations and black piping gel for the window and glove details. Here is the original inspiration: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nbarinque/3772363541/in/photostream/
