This is an old, old picture:) The pineapples are mini doll skirt cupcakes covered with b'cream stars to look like the real fruit. 10" round - single layer base cake. The leaves of the fruit are gumpaste; the shells are chocolate molded. All other icing is buttercream. The base boarder is a lei piped of b'cream per a very old Wilton yearbook ('70??).
This is actually a retirement cake:) The man it was for planned to ride his motorcycle......into the sunset:) The orange/yellow color is airbrushed. The bike is a frosting sheet pic mounted on gumpaste. All buttercream icing.
When a good friend enlarged their business they had a 'grand opening' so I made this cake for them. The largest oval pan - single layer. A copy of their logo is all buttercream except for the word "Frank's" which is colorflow.
The end of October brings these two themes to mind. The ghosts are mini doll skirt cupcakes. The football and kicker's foot are egg cakes. Ghosts and football covered in fondant; names also fondant. All other icing is buttercream. You can barely see the message that says: "Kick up a happy birthday".
The request was for a man smoking a cigar in a Mexican theme :( 12x16x2 sheet iced & decorated in buttercream.
The tiers sizes are 14, 10, 6; iced in buttercream w/swiss dots. Lilies, mums and sunflowers are accented with wafer paper leaves.
An 8x4" iced in chocolate buttercream. Leaves & vines are piped buttercream. Flowers are fondant - mums and daisy. Bottom border is fondant lace from a mold. Could be used for a birthday or anniversary.
This full sheet (24x18x2) is iced in crusting buttercream which is then textured w/a paper towel. The couple's initials piped in white on white, then overpiped w/piping gel w/gold luster dust mixed in. Plastic 50th wreath. Simple to the point and easy but attractive.
This is much smaller than it looks:) It is a single layer of the smallest oval pan set w/small rectangle and smaller yet sq stacked and iced in buttercream. A piece of hard plastic around the oval then sucker sticks stuck into the cake for railing w/royal icing 'ropes'. Wilton pillars for smoke stacks. 2 couples were going to celebrate their b'day & anniversary later in the year on a cruise.
For a small reception for a much older couple:) The sheet is 11x15x4" w/a 9"x4" heart pillared on top. Ruffled swags & borders piped w/tip 88 - all buttercream.
Conture pan set (15, 9,7"?; each 3" deep) tiers; iced in pale pink buttercream. Fondant molded lace border. Lots of fondant flowers (lilies, orchids, roses & more) and leaves.
A mold was used to make these lace pieces from fondant. The cake is iced in buttercream.
Baseball, soccer, tennis, football, and basketball all cut from fondant on a buttercreamed 8x4" round cake helps celebrate this boy's birthday.
The usual plain, simple stacked wedding cake with red ribbons around the bottom of the tiers. 16, 12, 9, 6" rounds in buttercream The delivery of this was yuck:( Had to wait hours for someone to show up to unlock the doors despite prior arrangements:(
Yep, that's what they wanted:) This 12x16x2 sheet is iced in b'uttercream. Marilyn, the Harley and a strip of roses are all frosting sheets. Add a little airbrushing and borders and your done:)
I have done variations of this theme several times.......it's a great humorous design. All buttercream. You can barely see it in the pic but the bottom border on the sides is a series of figure-piped hot dogs.
The heart tiers are 15, 10, 6; iced in buttercream - top & bottom tiers in ivory all other decorations in white. Lilies are fondant. Twigs & cattails are chocolate clay. This remains one of my favorites :)
Yuummmm the smell of chocolate buttercream! Had lots of problems w/this but in the end wasn't all that bad. Gumpaste rock roses (open) and leaves hide some of the bad spots. For a smallish outdoor wedding. Could be sued for a birthday, anniversary or shower also.
Cupcakes for the body w/a 5" round head. Bee is sniffing all the flowers - air-dried buttercream & royal icing. Covered in tip 233 fuzzy buttercream. Wafer paper wings; spaghetti antenna. Made for an office month celebration of b'days.
I did monthly birthday cakes for an office. They didn't have any in April so they asked me to come up w/something for Earth Day:) A 10x2" round base cake iced b'cream & airbrushed topped w/a 6" round topped w/a 1/2 ball. Once of my 1st attempts using fondant so there are plenty of pleats which became all the earth's mountains gone south:) Space ship, alien & planets are hand molded. Stars cut w/cookie cutter; mounted on floral wire. Could make a great cake for a boy's birthday.
A 12x18x2 sheet cake is iced in buttercream. Pigs are figure-piped; roses are air-dried buttercream. The little guy is a mini doll skirt cupcake w/a (commercial) sucker for his head which is iced in royal. The slice of watermellon, his feet and hands are thickened buttercream (done long before I ever heard of fondant). Inspiration for the kid cake from a wood painting booklet.
This is carved & pieced from a 9x13 sheet cake. iced in buttercream it features color-flow boot decorations.
this was for a very, very small wedding party - pillared to make it seem bigger :) The tiers are 8x4 and 6x4; iced in buttercream. Sugar molded bells; air-dried roses & dropflowers and a couple of plastic bells are used. It would be a nice shower or anniversary idea.
This is a dbl layer of the smallest oval pan set. Iced in buttercream it is loaded w/gumpaste and fondant flowers and stars - all left-overs from previous projects:) this was for a gal leaving a job. It could be sued for a birthday, small shower or retirement etc.
Baked in a glass casserole dish give this cake rounded top & corners. It is iced in buttercream. Simple, generic idea for a man's cake.
A mini doll skirt cake is topped with two 1/2 egg cupcakes for the head before being covered in fondant. Arms and legs are molded from all fondant.
