Bear Birthday Cake
Cake for my son's Gymboree teacher. She's a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and her birthday falls on the same day as when the group will be decorating bears and cards for oncology patients, so she decided to go with that theme. Bottom cake is a 14" dummy, covered in fondant and brushed with luster dust. Middle cake is a 12" chocolate cake with dark chocolate frosting, also covered in fondant. Bear is pound cake decorated with buttercream and a fondant ribbon and bow. The card and Greek symbols are fondant. I used real ribbon around the round cakes.

Bow and ribbon were dusted with white luster dust for some sparkle, and the whole cake was sprinkled with purple disco dust. My first loopy bow and wonky cake! The top of the pipe is a carved 12" cake. Yellow butter cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, all covered in fondant. Dragon
Dragon cake for a friend's birthday. It's based on a Lindy Smith dragon cake - directions on how to make it are in issue 107 of Cakes and Sugarcraft magazine. I modified the design a bit since the birthday girl wanted a more "grrr-arg-y" type dragon than a cute one. CC Easy Lemon Pound Cake with lemon buttercream frosting, covered and decorated with fondant. Took FOREVER, but I think the end result came out great!

Eugene The Emocorn
Birthday cake for a friend who crochets. She crocheted a stuffed unicorn, and gave him black eyeliner and clothes and named him "Eugene the Emocorn" so I made her a birthday cake that resembled his head. French vanilla cake with strawberry jam filling made in the Wilton horse head pan. Piped the buttercream to give it a crochet look and yarn-like hair. Fondant eye, nose, mouth and neckline. Many thanks to cakepanpam who had a buttercream crocheted cake that inspired the look of this one!

Book Of Spells
Birthday cake for a friend made to look like the Book of Spells from the movie Hocus Pocus. Cake Mix Doctor sour cream yellow cake with dark chocolate frosting. Covered and decorated in fondant. Stitches are royal icing. You can't really see it in the pictures, but I put some texture on the cover by pressing wadded Saran Wrap into the fondant to make it look more like wrinkled skin. "Pages" were made by repeatedly and randomly pressed a knife into the yellowed fondant on the sides. Coated the eyeball in piping gel to give it a wet look. Snakes are painted with silver Luster Dust; eyes are silver dragees. Got to use my fondant tools for this one, and they really made a difference in places! Had a lot of fun and learned a lot too. Best part was that if something wasn't quite right (fondant texture, folds or tears) it fit right in since the book is supposed to be old and made of skin!

Beatles Birthday Cake
Cake for my Mother-in-Law's birthday. She's a big Beatles fan. :) Cake was for four people, but I had the "Go big or go home" mentality, so cake is 16X24, but only an 8X8 square down by Paul is actual cake - the rest is fake cake. All iced in buttercream. Picture is from a Beatles cartoon poster and done using the frozen butterceam transfer technique.

Western Cake
Birthday cake for a relative. 12" dummy on the bottom, 8" Cake Mix Doctor chocolate cake with dark chocolate buttercream frosting on the top. Both covered in fondant. Hat and flowers are gumpaste. Bandanna details in royal icing. I made the hat in two parts by molding brim and the top over two different cowboy party hats, then assembled them after they dried. Learned a lot from this cake! Many many thanks to pinkflamingo, DianeLM, and merissa who had cakes that inspired this one! Thanks for looking.

Tank Cake
Many thanks to Mike_Elder for his tank cake tutorial found here, and for answering some questions I had about it. I'm going to be making a tank cake for my dad's Christmas party that he'll be throwing for his model club. I wanted to practice first, so I made a smaller version and brought it for Thanksgiving dessert. :) Carved yellow cake body with a rice krispy treat turret. Frosted with buttercream and covered in fondant. Decorated with fondant accents. Lollipop stick barrel, and toothpick machine guns colored with food coloring. I didn't calculate the actual scale since this was a smaller practice cake, so the treads are a little short, but overall I thought it came out great!

Angel Birthday Cake
Birthday cake for my Mother-in-Law who likes angels. In this case, the angels are helping to decorate the cake. :) She has amazing willpower and doesn't eat sweets, so the cakes are dummies. Cakes are covered and decorated with fondant and royal icing; angels are made from fondant, gumpaste, and royal icing. Inspired by a cake in the Wilton yearbook, and a cake made by Peggy Porschen in her book, "Amazing Cakes."

Cake For A Friend
Made this for a co-worker who had admired my tiara cake. Devil's food cake (Cake Dr. recipe) with chocolate buttercream, then covered with Satin Ice Dark Chocolate fondant. My first time using chocolate fondant - next time I'll roll it out using Crisco instead of my usual cornstarch to avoid some of the marks. Buttercream stars and silver dragees for decorations. White chocolate tiara (with some parts tinted red) and brushed with luster dust. Many thanks to carrielynnfields for the tiara pattern!

"domestic Goddess" Mother's Day Cake
My mother often refers to herself as a domestic goddess, so I thought Id make a cake that fit the title. :) Choc-o-holic two tier 8 cake on the bottom and pound cake pillow on top - all covered and decorated in fondant. White chocolate crown brushed with luster dust. Mom was most impressed. Many many thanks to Pyxxydust for her prince cake that inspired me, and MelC for her tiara template which I used for the crown.
