Lambeth Gondola Cake 1964

Lambeth Gondola Cake 1964 on Cake Central

Here is the Lambeth cake from the class I took from Edith Gates in 1964. The one that had 3,000 apple blossoms done with a 101s rose tip, petal by petal. No drop flowers allowed in this class. The gondola is a sugar mold covered in royal icing apple blossoms, the end pieces are run sugar or what today might be called flow in or flood work.

Oh, my goodness, it looks like it is made of lace! It is beautiful, but I don't think I'd ever be able to do that!

This cake is absolutely beautiful. You did a wonderful job. I can't imagine that many flowers!

Well the first thing that popped into my head was holy ........ what a beautiful, complicated, time consuming, incredible cake!!

Thank you. His method of over piping is labor intensive, but the results are awfully pretty. And I was only 25 at that time so I had a lot more stamina then.

Wow! I love the Lambeth method/technique. What tip did you use for the stringwork on the side -- 00? and was it royal icing or bc?

Wow, my jaw dropped upon seeing this one! Did you have this cake cryogenically frozen to preserve it? Such a work of art should last forever - that's above and beyond....!!

It was a styrofoam dummy done with all royal icing so it didn't hold up for too long, I eventually tossed it but I hated to.
