Jillian's Birthday Cake
This was a cake that I made to surprise a friend on her birthday. The cake is coated in chocolate ganache and covered in mmf. The lace is made from photofrost sheets cut on a silhouette digital cutter. This was my first attempt and it was quite easy. The band and flower are modeling chocolate.

Kristine's And Chris's Wedding Cake
This was a cake that I made for my sweet, lovely best friend. The tiers travelled four hours in the car to Washington from Oregon so I was happy they held up as well as they did. The cake was all blueberry cake with lemon buttercream filling and a vanilla buttercream/white ganache coating. The cake was covered in MMF. The branch was exacto cut from modeling chocolate; the stripes on the bottom are royal icing; the drop beads were moded out of fondant and the flowers are all gumpaste. The bottom tier is 12", then a double stacked 10" with a board splitting the middle and finally a 8" topper.

Tess's 13Th Birthday Graphic Cake
This was a quick cake for my sweet niece. She doesn't like things that are super girly so I decided to use this bold simple graphic design. The cake was chocolate chocolate chip cake with a chocolate buttercream/ganache filling and covering. The fondant was half MMF half chocolate MMF. The design was half modeling chocolate half gumpaste.

Laura's Baby Shower Cake
This cake was made for my girlfriend's baby shower. She is having her fourth boy so I wanted to make something feminine for her but not too girly. The top tier is textured as in faux bois using a rubber stamp. The branch is cut from modeling chocolate. The bottom mimicked the texture on a pillow I had a picture of. The spacer was five 6-inch cardboard cake rounds glued together and covered in modeling chocolate. The little flowers were veined with the FMM multi-flower veiner and have edible pearls in the center.

Teacher's Birthday Cake
This is a cake that I made for my daughter's first grade teacher. It is a nod to the fanciful flowers of Mary Engelbreit. The fondant covering the cake is half chocolate MMF and half vanilla MMF. The undercoat is chocolate buttercream. The flowers are made from modeling chocolate or a modeling chocolate fondant mix.

Jordan's Tatoo Cake
This is a cake that I made for my nephew who is a budding and very talented tatoo artist. The body is all red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and it is covered in MMF. The neck is made from RKT. The flower is Satin Ice black fondant with a bit of gumtex added. The center of the flower was made from a mold of flower centers by first impressions. For the shirt I cut a pattern out of paper towel sized to fit the body and then cut the fondant to fit the pattern. She got bustier and fuller figured with the added fondant so keep that in mind if you carve a bust. The tatoo was painted on with a tiny paint brush. It was pretty funny to hack into this one!

Madeline's Wonderland
This was the cake I made for my daughter Madeline's 6th birthday. It was neopolitan flavors with chocolate frosting and white chocolate ganache. It was a bit of a balancing act. I should have used and anchored pipe as support but just used dowels and it tended to want to wobble. Luckily we didn't have to transport it. My wonderful friend Jessica (aka mrsmudrash) covered and decorated the pillow. The hat brim was a challenge. In the end I used sheet metal flashing cut just a bit smaller than the brim to be flexible and supportive. The flowers, tag, smile and steam are gumpaste. All else is MMF or MMF with a bit of gumtex added for strength (like the tassels). I used black edible marker for the M/6 on the tag. This was a ver fun cake to make!

Choo Choo Train
This was the cake that I made for my son's 3rd birthday. You can't really tell from the photos but there is a hollow tunnel that runs through the mountain. The engine of the cake is RKT and the train cars are cake. The mountain is half strawberry cake with vanilla SMBC and half vanilla cake with oreo SMBC and chocolate ganache (donated by my dear friend known here as mrsmudrash). There are three cars for three years and they are filled with some of Asher's favorite things (books, eye balls-I know it's goofy, and play dough). The gravel is fontant that I left out to dry and then ground in a food processor and the tracks are chocolate fondant embossed with wood grain texture. All the major pieces are covered in a mix of half MMF and half Satin Ice. The mountain reminds me of Rocky and Bullwinkle :)

Tiki Birthday
This was a cake that I put together really fast in an afternoon for my neighbor's daughter's 15th birthday. The neighbor and daughter had made the flip-flops in advance so that saved some time. The tiki man was RKT covered in chocolate fondant. The base cake cover and waves were MMF. The tiki face, flowers and leaves were moldeling chocolate mixed with about 1/4 MMF. The flip flops were all modeling chocolate. The cake was vanilla butter cake with mango-pineapple SMBC. The sand was graham crackers and white sugar.

Circle Cake
This was a cake that I made for the 50th birthday of the headmaster of my daughters school. It was almond-hazelnut cake on the top two tiers with hazelnut-dark chocolate ganache. The bottom was rich chocolate cake with chocolate SMBC. It was covered in chocolate MMF and the circles were made from modeling chocolate with some colors mixed with a bit of fondant or chocolate fondant. I tried to mute the colors enough that it would not look like a baby shower cake :)

Birthday Flowers
This was a cake I made for my neighbor's birthday last week. I was anxious to try making some fun flowers so this was my excuse to play. The cake was white chocolate with swiss meringue buttercream (the cake was too fluffy for fondant). The flowers were made out of modeling chocolate with about 30% pre-made gumpaste added. I was going for a cabbage-style rose, magnolia and peony. They sort of resemble that. Anyway it was fun and a learning experience :)

Strawberry Shortcake

State Flower Cake
This was a gift for my friend and fellow cake decorator Sherry on her 30th birthday. This was my first attempt at real flowers. They are the Washington state flower, rhododendrons, and the Arizona state flower the segura cactus blossom for you twilight fans out there. Her husband added a pocket Jacob for her (so awesome!). I tried to give it a Pacific Northwest feel. The swirl is from the Wendy's logo. The cake was lemon with strawberry buttercream.

Butterfly Nemisis Cake
I had such a hard time with this cake. I struggled to bring it to realization. Top tier was espresso cake with white chocolate buttercream and bottom was sour cream cake with strawberry bc filling and lemon white chocolate swiss meringue. I used Michelle Foster's fondant and had difficulties. Accents are modeling chocolate with 30% gumpaste which was nice to work with.

Snowflake Cake
This was a dummy cake that I made to display at an auction to benefit my daughter's school. The snowflakes are gumpaste with royal icing details. The cutters/embossing sheets were from autumn carpenter. The fondant was Michelle Foster's recipe. And wow, dummy cakes are way more difficult to cover than I had anticipated!
