Mermaid
I made this for a customer (and friend) who's daughter turned 3 on New Year's. This is a 12" round with a wonder mold on top - yellow cake covered in buttercream icing. The top half of the mermaid is an actual Barbie. Her legs are stuck down in the cake. Her tail and all of the underwater creatures & shells, I made from MMF. The seaweed is gumpaste. And even tho we know it won't show up in the pics....I painted the tail and pearls with super pearl dust. TFL!

MMF is marshmallow fondant - the recipe is on this site....it's easier to work with and tastes way better than wilton's fondant

I can't stop looking at this cake. I wish I would've seen this around the time I was planning my daughter's Little Mermaid cake in March. Absolutely adorable.

This cake is amazing! My 3-yr-old daughter asks to see it every day and informs me that she wants "Ariel sitting on a rock" for her birthday. Can you give us any advice on how to make Ariel's tail? Did you let it dry before putting it on the cake or did it dry on the cake? Did you mold it around a Barbie's legs to get the proportions so correct? Is it just sitting on the cake or are there some extra supports??
