I just finished this up today. I have wanted to make a book cake forever so when my sister asked if I would make one I jumped at the chance. Everything is done in fondant. Hand painted writing on books (what a pain! I don't think I'll ever have a steady hand!).
Thanks for looking!
Your books look so real- how did you do that?
It looks great, you did a wonderful job & there is nothing wrong with your writing.
Wow you did a great job! I'm getting ready to do a books cake for my daughters college graduation and would love to know any helpful hints you might have to offer.
wow! this looks great! such a neat job! :)
This is a GREAT cake. My SIL wants a cake for my nephews graduation and this is perfect. Is the cap cake? Mortarboard? So many questions - mind if I PM you?
Great job! Book cakes are hard and yours looks fantastic!
Thank you everyone. They are really pretty easy. I just ice in BC and then roll out a long piece of fondant. I set the cake on one end of fondant and then cut the right shape. Once it is cut I just flip the other end up on top of the cake. I make an indention where the spine of the book would be and that is about it. I doweled everything just in case but each book is just one layer torted. The cap is made out of cake as well. Hope that helps. PM me with any questions.
love the way the books look great job!!!! How do you get the book shape what kind of pan do you use? I would love to try this for my daughter's graduation cake coming up next month.
Very impressive, I'll be trying it next month when my niece graduates. *Adding to faves!*
I just use an 8 inch square pan and cut the cakes to the size of book I want.
Oh my! Last night, I drew a design for a grad cake order I have scheduled in May, and then when I look in the CC photos; there is the (almost exact) cake I drew! (Except mine also had a long-stemmed rose, and I had the hat more "askew" on top of the stack of books.) Thanks so much for your explanation; if mine comes out half as good as yours I know the honoree will LOVE it. Great job!!!!! :)
very nice. :)
