Hi all. I made a birthday cake for my granddaughter's 18th. She wants to keep the toppers I made out of fondant.

I thought I read somewhere you can get a kind of varnish to preserve toppers. Does anyone have any idea what I can use please?

I read somewhere that you can use hairspray as she doesn't intend to eat them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

i don't know of anything specific although i too have read of others using something that worked well for them -- there's also like aleene's finishing sprays, matte or gloss -- you of course need to test whatever you use on some scrap fondant or on a section that won't show --

i upcycle cigar boxes into pretty treasure boxes -- i am amazed at how different glues, tape, paints and products react to the different materials i use -- i test everything!

Amazon.com: Aleene's Spray 6 oz. 3 Pack Acrylic Sealer, 6 Ounce (Pack of 3), Clear-Matte 3 Count : Home & Kitchen

they sell single cans too if in stock-- it's available off the shelf at walmart too, michaels & hobby lobby --

but the craft store shelves are bulging right now with the holidays coming up -- so there's a plethora of things you can use -- polyurethane comes to mind -- test though --
