Hello - I used to do many cakes but have not worked with fondant much and don't do very many cakes anymore. My daughter has surpassed me in the decorating department, but I am hosting her bridal shower and doing her cake. The top is a small 6 inch layer which will have a strapless wedding dress "bodice" of fondant covered with edible lace. I am only covering the sides of the buttercream round, and I'm worried about the fondant staying put and not sliding since it won't be on the top. I will have to mold the top for the breast area. My plan was to cut out the fondant, apply the lace and then put it onto the cake. How far in advance should I do this - should the fondant harden a bit before putting it on the cake? . The lace is done and stored and ready to be put on (I have to find some edible glue - suggestions please). I cannot seem to upload a picture, but this link has a similar cake, but instead of the fondant draping - it will just be one layer of fondant covered with the lace. https://cakesdecor.com/cakes/234163-bodice-wedding-cake-and-cupcakes
Thank you! I will only have one shot at this because I won't have time to do more lace! Any suggestions would be welcome!
