I seriously doubt that you will ever find a recipe that small:( Most likely u will have to reduce recipes . Or use a full recipe freezing the extra batter —but even better would be to bake it all & freeze the extra cakes. Well wrapped they would be good for a year,

Use the recipe for a standard 8" or 9" cake. Fill one 6" pan half full of batter and bake at 325 degrees F. for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. All ovens are different, so bake time will vary. You will have enough batter left over to bake approximately 18 - 20 standard size cupcakes or two more 6" layers. As kakeladi said, to freeze the cupcakes or cake, wrap really well in plastic wrap, then with a layer of aluminum foil or a freezer bag.

If u prefer to the recipes I already know just fill each pan — whatever size u want be it 6” or 8” or any other —1/2 full or just a bit more & bake as u usually have. Hopefully u have or can get several pans the same size so u can put them all in the over at once. Once baked just wrap up the cake layers u will not be using & freeze them .

Thanks Kakeladi really appreciate the help, realize I've been in autopilot usually using the 2-3 recipes I know for 8 so needing a 6 has complicated things, didn't realize cakeland was so sizeist lol.If I ever turn out this thing will share my amateur efforts

If you take a recipe for a two layer, 8" or 9" cake and divide the ingredients by three, your recipe should work for one 6" layer. However, it could be problematic to divide eggs.

Don't we all FDT79! Even those of us who have been baking for a 100 years still learn something new with every project.

HI guys
It's been a while but if it would be helpful wanted to share a recipe I found that someone had used as a 6 inch cake. It's a good vanilla mud.
Vanilla mudcake 6 inch [adapted from Exclusively Food website as they referenced someone adapting a recipe for 6 inch taster cake when looking for baby shower top cake which is impossible to find 6 inch recipe]
http://www.exclusivelyfood.com.au/2006/07/white-chocolate-mud-cake-recipe.html
Ingredients
300g white chocolate (we use Cadbury Dream white chocolate)
200g butter (if using unsalted butter, add 1/4 teaspoon fine table salt with the butter)
250ml (1 cup) milk
165g (3/4 cup) caster sugar
2 teaspoons (10ml) vanilla extract
2 large eggs, lightly beaten (we use eggs with a minimum weight of 59g)
100g (2/3 cup) self-raising flour
150g (1 cup) plain flour
Method
Preheat oven to 145 degrees celsius non fan forced for 6 inch pan adaptation
Grease a 20cm square cake pan [6 inch round obviously instead] and line the base and sides of the pan with baking paper.
Place chocolate, butter, milk and sugar in a large saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently. Remove from heat when chocolate and butter have melted, and stir mixture until completely smooth. Allow mixture to cool at room temperature for 15 minutes.
Add vanilla and eggs to chocolate mixture and stir until well combined.
Stir flours together in a large bowl. Add one cup of chocolate mixture to the flour and stir until a smooth paste forms.
Add remaining chocolate mixture and stir until mixture is smooth. This gradual method of combining the wet and dry ingredients helps prevent lumps.
Pour mixture into prepared pan.
I baked for 1 hr 15 mins at least, took up to 1 hr 30 mins depending on height of batter in pan, no batter is supposed to show on blade

Thanks for sharing your recipe! Your cake is alsolutely precious! Did you bake the whole top tier as one layer?

Hi SandraSmiley
Thanks so much, was so much stress & preoccupation am just going to take the compliment rather than give you a guided tour of the flaws :) Yep I used that recipe for the top tier, torted it & covered with white chocolate ganache, but tried adding some lemon curd to the middle ganache filling, just as it seemed like a lot of vanilla flavour all around otherwise. I've come across a great chocolate mudcake recipe which I used for the bottom 8 inch cake if you ever need it.

You aren't supposed to give me a tour of flaws! I see beautiful work, so please do not disillusion me, lol. The reason I asked if you baked the whole top tier in one pan is because it is so tall. I use two 3" pans and torte the layers, but this appears to be at least 5" tall. Didn't it take and awfully long time to bake? Just curious, I know people do it all the time and I've even seen it on videos.

sweet well done cake -- and the little house collection in the background makes for a cute photo --

Hi SandraSmiley
No you're right am going to be proud of my [now deceased lol] cake & accept her flaws & all :) Yep being time poor & only having one 6 inch pan was really searching for a single bake recipe & that top tier was the single cake from that recipe above. Think before I torted & froze it each half was approx 4 cms high from memory. Yep took up to an hour & a half to bake roughly. I think when ganached she was about 8.5-9 cms high? By the way am making cupcakes for the rspca cupcake day here within a month so if you have any decent recipes that are moist pls let me know :)

Absolutely true about forgetting to relax and enjoy our achievements! I only occasionally make cupcakes, but when I do I use the same recipes as for my cakes, just bake for a shorter period of time. A real cupcake maker may have special recipes which work better.

Thanks, FDT79! I have 27 rescue babies and adore every one!

I mean right now I have 27. The most I've ever had at one time was 34. Over my lifetime, I've had probably 150. One day I will sit down and count them. Yes, I do remember each one. I long ago stopped donating to organizations. I was single and rather poor and realized one day that I WAS an animal rescue and I know exactly where every penny of my donation goes, lol. I didn't set out to do this, they just show up and I cannot turn away anything that is hungry. Once I raised a baby skunk, lol.

yeah -- you're right -- completely true we all do tend to stress a bit, some more than others --
well deserved praise on that pretty cake!
Thanks heaps K8memphis :) You obsess & stress so much leading in [well I do won't speak for everyone!] that you never realise how nice it is to sit back & appreciate feedback.

FDT79, I do understand what you mean. If people would spay or neutered their pets, there would not be milliions of starving, homeless cats and dogs. It is so simple and most places have organizations which do spays and neuters for practically nothing, like $15.00. I always take mine to the vet and pay full price because I also have them checked for any diseases and parasites and get their shots.
