It depends a lot on where you live and what it costs for ALL your ingredients & packaging I suggest no less than $3 ea & probably $4-5

I am in Central PA....small rural area.  Most bakeries around here do not make cupcakes this detailed.

Thank you for your input!

My thinking is exactly the same as kakeladi's and I live in rural Middle Tennessee.  Personally, I do not care what price the market supports, I am only concerned what it is worth to me to make them.

Sure wish I could pipe like that!  Gorgeous work!

SandraSmiley...Thank you for the compliment.....actually two of the cuppies were Russian tips but the rest were handpiped....it was more or less an experiment...BUT, the TIME put into piping was extensive....made them ahead and froze the individual flowers, then placed on the cake....I am now thinking about making 250 of these???  I better make it worth my while! hahahaha

You are exactly right, tal!  I cannot imagine how long it would take to do 250 of these, even if they were all done with the Russian tips!  Your hand would fall off!  Before you worry too much, make the potential client a price offer and see if she takes it.  Believe me, not everyone appreciates the cost in money, time, and experience which goes into this kind of work and she may be shocked and turn you down.  I am leaning more toward $4 each, which is what I charge for a serving of cake (starting price).  It would be a whole lot easier to decorate a big cake than 250 cupcakes!

I completely agree.  Wish it were a cake, but unfortunately, it is for a health rehab event to include staff and patients.....I plan on doing just that bc I have a feeling that they would prefer to run to Sam's Club - save a ton of money that way....

So I just spoke with the potential client and as much as money would have been nice, I was very honest with how much it would have cost....fortunately, she herself had done cakes years ago so she had a knowledge of time, money and effort that goes into this art.....she agreed that the company would not be able to pay that kind of money for this event....BUT would keep me in mind for personal events...so all went well.

Thank you for all of your input and help in this!!!!  For some reason, I can't get my emoji's to open up so I am sending a HUGE SMILE to all of you!

Oh I’m glad for you that they said no! I’m a bit surprised if the lady has prior decorating experience that she didn’t know how expensive things are My hands hurt for you doing such a huge job :) Sounds like you did it right by making them ahead and frzing If you had gotten the order would you have had room in the fzr for that many? That’s the type of thing I would not have thought out But be prepared to start getting orders — sounds like she is the kind of person who will tout your skills :)

That actually surprised me as well...maybe she didn't 'decorate' as elaborately with her cakes..who knows!

As much as I love doing this...I just couldn't imagine doing 250 of them!!!!!  So, yes I agree...the money would have been great and certainly would have come in handy as well as I would have felt fantastic being creative BUT.....sometimes money isn't everything...now I can take that time and spend it with my grandbabies!

I would have been easier to do large sheet cakes with flower decorations...not on every serving!....but the cost would still be a lot!  Your piping skills are off the chart, so never sell yourself short!

Cake decorating and chocolate sculpting are definitely just a fun hobby for me.  I cannot imagine doing it for a living, very hard work!
