I have a customer that want s a VERY specific cake. He won't budge no matter what I try to tell him. He wants a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Not a problem. But he wants the frosting blue and yellow. icon_mad.gif Does anyone know how to make it so it can be colored? Thank you so much!!

I agree...that's very bizarre. Requests like that, especially where you say he "won't budge at all" are the first signal NOT to take the order, in my opinion! icon_confused.gif

I'd offer him a chocolate cake filled with chocolate icing...but outer iced in his blue/yellow vanilla icing...and if he says no, then run!

He is from Peru and very anal. He is driving me nuts!! Do you know if there is chocolate flavoring that maybe I could add to buttercream and make it taste ok?

tell this guy it is impossible to make brown turn blue..relate it to paint..maybe he'll get it. Tell him you will gladly decorate it with blue accents. If he doesn't like it, have him locate a source who can do it...!(of course no one can) Unless he wants white chocolate frosting..but i don't think he does.

I tried that! He doesn't understand. I think he is going to just end up with buttercream! icon_smile.gif I'll add extra chocolate filling and maybe he won't notice the different flavors!

Try asking him is white chocolate would be alright. That way at least you can color it blue and yellow.

I agree with the earlier post - he sounds like more trouble than he's worth. Even a chocolate extract will turn your icing brown, so that's not an option. If you do this for him, there's no telling what he'll want next time!

I think that's what I'm gonna have to do. I also thought about covering it in chocolate and then covering that in fondant and telling him to just pick off the fondant. I don't know. I do know that there won't be a next time for this guy!! icon_wink.gif

a. As suggested see if he goes for white chocolate.

b. What about one of the color sprays like Betty Crocker or Wilton's? I know the white will cover a chocolate cake, so I don't see why the blue or yellow wouldn't.

How about chocolate frosting with a rolled butter cream or fondant over the top. The fondant can be peeled away from the chocolate and the cake eaten with just the chocolate if desired.

Thank you everyone for your help. I think what I am going to do is go with the whipped frosting. It is white and really doesn't tste like anything but a hint of vanilla. And I am going to add an extra layer to the cake with more chocolate filliing so that all he really tastes is chocolate! I sure hope this works!!
