Ahhhhh, HELP! I'm searching high and low for JUST TWO 32x40 thick foam boards sturdy enough for 2 large cupcake cakes  but have yet to find any that are not sold in bulk, why is this? I think it's ridiculous. Does anyone know where I can get them from? I need them ASAP. If it comes to a point where I need to go with plan B, Are there any other options as far as boards go? I have seen a lot of people like to use plywood as well. But how does that work?

I found this for a 40x60 sheet that you could cut down to size...https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/334961/Office-Depot-Brand-Sturdy-Board-Foam/

What quantity is the bulk purchase?  I would be tempted to buy them in bulk as long as I had a place to store them and then use the leftover to make cake boards for future cakes.  I have been doing this lately so I can control the size I need/want.  I usually glue 3 pieces together for stability.

But you can use wood cut down to size (most hardware stores can do this for you).  Just make sure it is sanded smooth.  And since these are for cupcake cakes you can do whatever finish you want to the board (paint, stain, covered in fabric or paper) because the only thing touching the board will be the wrappers.

Oh and you will probably want to use two-three of the foam boards I linked for each cupcake cake.  One won't be sturdy enough.  So I would be tempted to do a quick estimate for how much the foam board would be compared to some wood from the hardware store and go with what would be easier on your wallet.

Yes as suggested consider buying it in bulk for all future cake board use   They are easily cut to size   Good  luck

i’ve used plywood and it is relentlessly unforgivably heavy

the thick foam core would be fine

there’s different thicknesses of  foam core boards — the thins ones I agree using more than one is best but one of the half inch thick foam core would be fine —

Would 2 1/8 inch boards together be enough?

Technically 100 but I decided that that was too many for one single board and Got her to go with two boards of 56. Yes I'm in PA! Michaels doesn't seem to have anything as far as the size goes, it seems like most boards are sold as 1/8 thickness and very few sold as 3/16. I did look at Hobby Lobbys website. There were a few things there I just wasn't sure which one to choose.

I buy the thick ones from either of those stores -- they should have them there -- but yeah two of those would be very secure -- but you wanna attach them together securely with packing tape or a lot of hot glue --

in other foam core news -- if I had a project that was bigger than the boards I could get -- I would piece it so that it would be the right size and i'd cut two of each of those -- i'd place them cross ways of each other so each pieced section had a full sheet under or on top of it -- then tape that all up secure and voila!

I made a lot, most of my bottom boards --
