Hi

A friend of mine is making our wedding cake, and our florist is providing some eucalyptus for decoration of the cake. As they offered to do this (as opposed to me asking them) I decided to go for it. However, I’m now coming across lots of articles about the dangers of using inedible plants/flowers on cakes? Is it safe for us to decorate the cake with this? The florist seems to think it will be fine but I think she has this opinion from working with professional cake makers who know how to prepare the plants/flowers to go safely on the cake. Any advice much appreciated!

Personally, I would not use it.  It is easy to make from gum paste, so I would just make it.  That way I know it is safe.

Depends on how much & where it is placed   There is a way to use it but the server must understand how to cut the cage to be sure nothing that it touches gets served   I haven’t looked into whether it is non-toxic or not
