How To Place Nuts On Top Of Christmas Cake So That They Stay Symmetrically?

I am making a Christmas plum cake and I like to decorate the top of the cake with cashew nuts. I place them in a circle, touching each other and touching the wall of the pan. But after baking is done, nuts have moved about, destroying the nice circle. I also tried by arranging them in circle touching the wall but not touching each other. Still not maintaining circle. And I can see factory made cakes of same type having cashew nut decorations. How can I get the decorations proper?
Recipe is similar to many fruit cakes all over the world:Dryfruits are soaked in alcohol for some days and drained on the day of baking.
Make a caramel syrup from sugar. melt butter.
mix egg yolks and butter, then add vanilla extract, orange zest, and spices.
add flour+leaveners in parts, alternating with caramel syrup.
add egg whites that are whipped to firm peaks.
add the dry fruits with a little flour to avoid sinking.
pour in cake pan and arrange nuts on top. bake.

I have not tried this, but maybe toast the nuts first so they are partially baked, then place them on the cake when the cake is partially baked and "set" so they don't move so much? or make a design with fruits and nuts that covers the surface entirely so they can't move around. Most of the cakes I saw when googling looked as if the fruit and nut pattern was placed after baking was completed, then covered with a glaze. Let us know what works!

some ideas:
make a thicker shortening flour paste to grease the pan with to sink them into
place them then put a little batter on top and bake that for a few -- then place all the batter
put them on after baking with royal or something --
best to you -- merry christmas
