Decorating A Cake With Confetti?

Could someone tell me what was used as the pink confetti on this cake, please? I am decorating a wedding cake and like the glitter/confetti effect, but I would like the result to be more like this one. I have searched for other examples but all I can find are cakes that have been airbrushed or painted with luster dust.
Could these confetti pieces be bought somewhere online, or do you think they were hand made?
