I've had my Kitchen Aid Classic stand mixer for about 18 years. I replaced the white coated beater/paddle a few years or so ago. I used to put it in the top rack of dishwasher and it got sort of cracky looking (but nothing came off) so I decided to replace it. BUT, now i've bought 2 replacements on amazon, and they've both actually chipped the coating off in a short amount of time. I feel like the original one was better. I'm actually wondering if i should buy a different mixer because i've read on amazon that alot of people are having this problem and no one wants that in their food! I've considered using the wire wisk instead but not sure that would be ok for cakes and cookie doughs. Also, i've read even people who have the upgraded model which has a silver beater had an issue with those rubbing off black. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks much.

At first I was using the silver paddle attachement that came with my KitchenAid. It did turn kinda grey after a while and leave a nasty metal-grey color into my batter or butercream. Yuk.
Now I only use my new metro beater blade. Yes it is plastic, but I've been using it for at least 5 years and it is still good as new. Sure I am no professional and only hobybake, but that paddle attachement change my live.
