Chocolate Pretzel Rod Help!

I'm using baseball bat mold and I have to do a blue and white stripe at the bottom then add chocolate then the pretzel then fill remaining cavity. I find no matter what object I put my melts in they harden before I can fill the next mold. I have 2 molds that can do 3 bats each. I'm fine with the first but  then after letting it sit in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, the candy is hard and I am having trouble reheating it and softening it in the bag that it's in

Why are you putting the chocolate in the fridge? Or are you putting the mold in the fridge after you get the chocolate in it? I'm a little confused there. I always melt my chocolate in a glass measuring cup, then transfer to a silicon cup. Glass holds heat, which is good and bad, but my melts were weird if I let them sit in the glass cup too long. I don't really understand the problem, so I can't help figure out what's wrong.

I can only do 6 at a time. Then they sit for 15 min in the fridge to harden. When I pop them out and go to start the next batch my candy melts are hard. I have to put them in a piping bag with a tip to fill in the stripes on the baseball bat. If I microwave the piping bag it either burns or isn't soft enough to pipe. it hardens in the tip and I can't take it out to clean because it's in the bottom of the piping bag

Instead of using  the tip, microwave in your glass container, then transfer to the piping bag with no tip. You can cut a small enough hole that the chocolate still flows out nicely and can easily be reheated. Massage the bag gently before cutting the tip to ensure that all of the chocolate has melted.

That last part was confusing, sorry. Massage the bag if you're melting the candy in it.

  • two other ideas to keep your choco warm in the meantime -- well i thought of three:
  • buy an extra mold next time -- keep them shuttling back & forth --
  • put a small pan of water on the stove -- bring it to a boil, turn the fire all the way down but not off -- put a saucer on top of it to completely cover the opening of the pot -- lay your bag on there between uses --
  • cover a heating pad with plastic wrap/cling film put your bag on that in between 


sorry - the bulleting got wonky there -- can't fix it -- still reads ok though

We make lots of pretzel rods each year for church fund raisers.  We use squeeze bottles.  Between uses, keep the bottles in a crockpot of warm/hot water.  You have to work with the temps on your crockpot a little bit to find the right temp to keep the chocolate fluid but not "burned,"  Even the youth can use these squeeze bottles effectively, though I have to remind them to place the bottles back into the crockpot :).
