Weight Of 5 Tiered Cake Vs Cake Stand
Decorating By mrsmac888 Updated 16 Aug 2017 , 7:50pm by mrsmac888

I had a bride-to-be order a stacked, 5 tier cake for her wedding. At the time of the meeting, she did not have the cake stand purchased yet. She dropped it off to me the other day and I'm worried that it will not bear the weight of the cake. The cake will be all buttercream, 4 inches tall tiers, all filled. Tiers are: 6", 8", 10" 12" and 14".
Does anyone have any idea how much the above mentioned cake would weigh, at least somewhere in the close range?
This is the cake stand. It does not have a weight capacity listed. In fact, someone asked in the Q&A and no one could give her a weight range.

Hi, I have eight (two each) of those cake stands in different sizes. I use them for bridal showers and birthday table decor. I can tell you that my larger set of two, is bigger then the one you have, and it WILL NOT hold a five their cake without topping over. They aren't weighted and the column pedestal is to thin in the middle to hold anything over two tiers. The larger cake I have used them with was a simple 8 inch cake with a cupcake on top. It was very light and it hardly made it, my stand was larger then this one.. It was for family so it really did not matter, if it flipped or not. I wouldn't put a paid cake on these. It will top over and they will blame you for it. You shouldn't even consider placing a fiver tier cake on a pedestal cake. Sometimes brides see things on magazines and get it on their heads that they want something like that. It's our job to tell them no and educate them, why it's impossible. Give her a visual, grab some heavy school books for college classes, try to stack three books together on her stand, then get a 3 litter of Poland spring water, then place another two books on top and tell her to watch how long it takes to come crashing down. It will be messy because the bottle of water has to be full and staying up, not laying on its flat side. I guarantee that she will change her mind about the stand. I had a MOB and bride hell bent on using a stand similar. It had crystals and they really wanted the sparkle on the stand so they didn't have to spend money on adding sparkles to the cake. I set the books up, gave each a mop and told them to count to 100 while the FOB and maid of honor made turns around the table with the cake. It topped over before they got to 30. It changed their minds really quickly. Just tell her no, if she insists send her packing. However if you really the money then make sure that it is well covered on your contract. Take a picture of the stand, print the information form the website and have her sign next to it, with your advice that it's a bad idea, because it will top over at the reception when people start to walk around and dance. She will blame you and request a full refund. Don't do it or you will regret it.

I am in 100% agreement with Alohilani, absolutely the stand will not come close to holding a five tier cake.
