Please resist putting sparklers on cakes on the 4th. Those sparks are hot tiny slivers of metal and will fall on the icing. Do you really want your guests eating sparkler chemical residue and burnt metal flakes?  Please think about it and resist the temptation.

They make sparkler candles.  Not as cool looking as real ones but safer!

I've seen those candles. Unfortunately they're not available everywhere, and people will still be stupid and put real sparklers on cakes and cupcakes.
