Cricut Machine And Edible Images
Decorating By Louise1980 Updated 8 Apr 2017 , 5:38pm by icingimages

I'm wondering if anyone has used a cricut machine with icing sheets or wafer paper? I'm searching for a cutting machine so I can cut out my own butterflies and other little images etc.
For the lovely person who can help and has used these before;
1. Can I create my own designs on my computer, print them out on my edible printer and then get the cricut to just cut them out?
2. Does it print as well? If so is it easy to put edible ink in the machine? Or does it just cut?
I would be grateful for any help or advice! I've emailed the company but they must be super busy because I never hear back from them.
I'm located in Australia - I'm pretty sure the cricut machine is American so not sure if I should try to find an Australian machine? If so can anyone recommend one? Sorry for all the questions haha!

There are several machines on the market that can be used with edible media.
Cricut used to sell the Cricut Cake edition machines, but no longer does. I have an older model and love it because it was created at a time when you cut image directly from you computer using the Sure Cuts A Lot second party software (SCAL). Once Cricut caught on they made the machine so they would not longer operate with SCAL and you were limited to what you could get from their cartridges. When my current machine quits I would never consider another Cricut. They don't currently to my knowledge offer a food safe unit, even though some people have adapted some of their newer models to work with edible media. THE CRICUTS DO NOT PRINT!
There is a version of the Silhouette that a company created an edible media kits for. I have it too. It is good because you can print out an edible image from an edible image printer, complete with registration marks that the Silhouette can detect and then cut out. It's intended to cut gumpaste/fondant but I've had little luck with cutting them, though mine works well with edible images. The Silhouette itself doesn't print, but their design software prints to your edible printer and prints registration marks so the Silhouette knows where to make the cuts.
My next purchase will likely be a unit by Pazzles. There's a link below to the site and to their pastry kit. They also have videos on You Tube.

Hope this helps some!

Excuse the dozen or so typos and grammar errors above please! Hit the submit without a good proof reading!

Hey Jeff, thanks so much for taking the time to reply! I really appreciate it :)
So I'll stay away from Cricut then, and maybe go for the silhouette machine that you have added the link too? Do you think I could print my own designs from my software, and the machine would cut them out? I would love to cut out names, butterflies etc and I have all of my own designs ready to go. I'm just scared of these machines because I've never used one haha!

@Louise1980 I would recommend contacting our friends at icingimages.com they are experts on printing edible images and our go-to resource on this topic.

Not sure about using other software than the Silhouette Design Studio software that comes with the Silhouette unit.
The Silhouette software is designed to print to a printer and prints registration marks on the corners of the printed sheets that the machine then uses to detect so that it cuts the printed designs.
I'm not sure if you could print from another software and still be able to cut it out using the Silhouette.

Thanks so much for the helpful info
I have a friend who works at a sewing machine business and has offered to take some sheets and wafer paper to test them out on the cutting machines at his work. I think they have brother scan and cut machines, I'll see how they turn out
Oh not sure how I just posted the same first sentence twice haha!

The software that comes with the Silhouette Cameo that is sold on Icing Images will work with your edible printer, print the registration marks and then cut out what you printed! It works great with all edible papers. I believe the Brother has a smaller cutting area. The Cameo does have a Pixscan matt which is the same as scanning it.! I hope this is helpful!
