So..ive been seeing alot of pictures of fresh cream cakes which have coloured rose piping on top,  now my question is...is it possible to decorate a cake with both whipped cream (which has been stabilised) and Buttercream?..I always thought that was a no no..but looking at these cake pictures I'm no sure anymore...either they've very heavily coloured their whipping cream or they've used buttercream for the top of thay cake...any advice?

I have only used one or the other but never both buttercream and whip cream together. I do color the stabilized whip cream and can easily make flowers with it as well. Guess we will see what others have to say.

Are you referring to Bettercreme - a non dairy product from Rich's?  I don't think I ever used the two together however I think it would work o.k.  I don't believe you can color either very well - just to very light/pastel shades.

Yes, that's what I meant when I said it does not color well :(  About the only way to add more color that I can think of is to airbrush it.

As I remember there should be no problem using b'cream flowers on whipped cream.  Just be sure to whip that cream up good and stiff and add some piping gel to stiffen/stabilize it.  Using a good crusting recipe (the less fat the more it will crust) you can make your roses ahead of time and let them air dry then you can just place them on the whiipped cream frosted cake.
