What Icing Colors Have Strange Tastes When Used A Lot Of?

Hi all, I made a cake this weekend w/ darker purple icing. The purple icing had a very yucky taste to it. I didn't think I used too much that it should have really affecting the taste that much. I have also had bad taste w/ red (even w/ no taste red). I use the wilton gels. Can anyone tell me what other colors they have had which may have bad taste if using too much in icing? Does anyone have any recommendations for other icing gels that may not have a bad taste?

Americolor! Wilton colors do tend to have more off flavor, and don't color as well either. The CC store has a great selection of colors at unbeatable prices...check it out!
