I've seen all sorts of neat Valentine's Day cards, candies, etc...this year and so my brain has been whirling with ideas for cakes. Since my twins just turned two, I know I will be lucky if I get to actually make one or two of them. So, I decided I would share them with all of you. Maybe someone else can have fun making them.

Also, I thought if anyone else had some original Valentine's Day cake ideas or different spinoffs of these ideas, they could add on to this post, too.

Cake #1: Two heart cakes stacked on top of one another like heart-shaped chocolate boxes. Bottom cake covered in red fondant, top cake white with red toile on it. A red ribbon "tying' both cakes together with one of those really loopy bows on top.

Since I'm too cheap to buy the toile stencil, I thought take a picture of some red or pink toile fabric at the fabric store and then have an edible image made of the fabric, cut two strips from the image for the sides of the heart and cut a heart-shaped piece for the top.

Cake #2: Hat box with kitty cat. This would be a round cake covered with vertical stripes of different sizes, colored in shades of pink and khaki. Could be made to look like a hat box. Black kitty cat (with pearl or jeweled collar, pink hairbow--girly) sitting beside (or on top of cake) with tail looped into a heart shape on top of the cake. Or...two cats (boy and girl), one on each side of the cake with their tails looped in a heart shape over the top of the cake.

This could be for a couple (the two cats) or a fun "girlfriends" type cake with the one froo-froo cat.

Cake #3: Valentine's Soccer Ball. Heart shaped cake covered with a soccer ball pattern all over.

This could be for a boy if you used white and black shapes or for a girl if you used white and pink or purple shapes.

Cake #4: Valentine's Peacock. This would be a cake shaped like a standing (or sitting) 3-D peacock. It would be a lot like making the 3-D turkey for thanksgiving (the live one, not the cooked one on the platter), but the tails feathers would be decorated with hearts. I was thinking the feathers would be teal and made of fondant or gumpaste. On each feather there would be a large pink heart at the top and a brown sprawling vine with branches all the way to the base of the feather. There would be smaller pink hearts at the end of some of the branches and others would end in little curly-cue scrolls--kind of like ivy, only with hearts instead of leaves. Anyway, I think the wondermold pan would work for the main body.

This cake could be a lot of fun for kids. Instead of the vining hearts on the feathers, you could even put the names of people you love like your kids, parents, grandparents, family friends, pets, etc...

I have one more that's formulating in my head, but I don't have it all worked out yet. I'll post it if I figure out how to complete the design.

Great ideas! Sorry I don't have any ideas to share right now. My brain is in wedding cake mode.

It's ok if you don't have any ideas. I'm blank a lot of the time. But, these cakes have been spinning around in my head the last few days, and I just had to get them out, so I thought I'd share them. Maybe someone else can benefit from them.
