I have a person who wants a minecraft cake....the one with the sword sticking out of it. And of coarse I said yes. Being as I am a hobby cake maker, and my fondant skills are good, but certainly not as nice as many of you, I ask you how would you go about making the sword.

I wasnt planning on making the whole thing. And I think I was going to leave it separate and have the customer put it in when she got home and was ready to serve it, that way less chance of it falling.

I also thought of using a foam core base with some dowels at the bottom to stick in the cake. Not sure if the fondant will stick to the foam core. So my question is, what is the best way to make that dang sword?

I'm far from the expert that the others are here, but I am a MASSIVE Minecraft fan and player, so I've given thought to similar ideas already :)

It might be worth doing this in layers. Start with a simple layer in the middle in the shape of the sword, then cut out the squares and stick them on with water/egg white/edible glue. Then add another layer on the back the same way. Once it's all dried, it might be strong enough to put in the cake and stand upright.

I'm probably wrong though, so I'll defer to the more knowledgeable people on here :)

I used foamcore and the fondant stuck to it just fine. :)

Hopefully mine will look as good as the picture she sent me.

Thanks for the help.
