AWhat is the difference between Sugar Cookie Icing & Royal Icing? Besides the recipe being completely different.

I have always decorated cookies with royal icing using egg whites, powdered sugar & COT but I'm not going to use this recipe anymore because of the raw eggs so I picked up Wilton meringue powder & I was just going to use the recipe on the can. But I have been looking around at different sugar cookie recipes & a bunch of them say to use sugar cookie icing which is completely different recipe:

1 Cup Confectioners sugar 2 teaspoons Milk 2 teaspoons Light Corn Syrup 1/4 teaspoon Almond

Also Royal icing from meringue powder VS. Color Flow from meringue powder?

Last Question: I was thinking about using Jello instead of food coloring to just add a little flavor. Good idea?

Sorry for asking so many questions! & TIA

Royal icing is rock hard icing. The glaze, or sugar cookie icing isn't as hard, it dries firm, but not rock hard.

a major difference is finer details...royal icing pipes small fine lines that hold their shape...glace icing (sugar icing) can be piped through very small tips but it tends to spread out.
