AI have a customer that is wanting a cake with charcoal grey icing. I know that grey is a color that is sometimes hard to achieve. Any help on making this color for the buttercream icing would be great. I use Wilton pastes a lot but if I need to buy something else please let me know. Thank you in advance

If you use black (wilton) you will need to add a touch of yellow. It will look kinda yucky at first, but keep mixing. It gets better once it blends in well.

It helps to start with a darker color like brown, then use black. If it is blue or purple looking , add your touch of yellow. Some of the other brands, I hear, get a truer black, but Wilton is what is easy for me to get where I live.

I was thinking of fondant when I wrote that. With buttercream, I'd not go brown first.
But remember, buttercream dries a bit darker than it is wet.
