How do you get gray fondant? I tried mixing white Satin Ice fondant with Black fondant (Duff Goldman) and it came out a taupe/brownish color not at all gray. So I tried mixing wilton black food color into white fondant and I got a blueish color. I am so confused. I just wanted a light gray. Help please

Hi there, you can start off with a light blue colour fondant and add a touch of black. That way the colour shouldn't fade too or turn into another colour altogether. I used that method on the elephant and hippo with one of my recent cakes.

THIS !!!! start off with blue first - makes a much nicer grey and it doesn't get those pink or green undertones depnding on what black you use.

Add a small amount of black to white and then a tiny dab of yellow coloring, the yellow cancels out the purple/blue tint that black gives.

I've had to add yellow, too...to off set the purple tint I got from using Wilton black. It was kind of a PITA...but just do it slow and steady.
Like the above poster said, look at the color wheel and add the opposite color of which your grey has tints of.
If at all possible, do your color checks in natural light.

Add some yellow not alot very little it will turn the blue gray.

I nixed my black food coloring from Wilton after my grey experience. Americolor all the way!

AThanks for the yellow tip, my grey always turns a pale blue.

Just made the perfect grey buttons - and as they are drying they are looking purple - gonna try the yellow trick - thanks for asking the question, and for all the answers!!

I did the light blue with black, worked perfect in my homemade mmf!
Thanks for posting the tip

Thanks for you help. My grey fondant was turning purple, added a little yellow and now it's a grey color. If I let it rest will the grey color turn darker?

I find fondant dries a shade lighter where buttercream dries a shade darker.
