I cannot get a handle on cupcake tins and liner sizes.
I have a "standard" size tin where each cup measures about 2/34 across the top using a ruler and have been using standard size liners. These cupcakes are coming out a little too small for my liking. yet, I don't want to use a jumbo tin designed for humugo sized muffins either.
I figure a good cupcake size might be about 3 inches on the top diameter. is there such a pan with that cup size?
i've been looking at liners too. For example:
The Wilton king size seem too tall. Anybody use these? How do the cakes come out with these?

These look like big muffin liners. I'm thinking they'd be too big.

Also, someone once said that to change the size of your cake, you change the liner and not the pan. But that doesn't make sense to me because I can imagine that if you put a liner that is wider than the tin, the liner would be smushed inside the cup and the cake wouldn't fill out the liner.
Any ideas?
I really just want a cupcake a little larger than standard.

You measure a cupcake liners size by the bottom of the pan X the height of the pan. You're measuring the wrong part of the pan!
A "standard" cupcake is 2" on the bottom x 1.75" tall.
To make a taller cupcake: most people use 1.75" tall liners for a standard cupcake. So look for liners that are 2" or more taller (the second number).
I also use the 2 x 1 3/4 tall cupcake liners. They fit just fine in my "standard" pans. They make a nice size cupcake and they are not extremely expensive. You can definitely tell the size difference when comparing this liner size to the "standard" size you can pick up at the grocery store.

but Stiches said above that A "standard" cupcake is 2" on the bottom x 1.75" tall. You have said that this size is different from "standard." I'm confused.
