So I'm making an 11x15 cake for 40 people....
do I make two whole cakes and stack them and fill
OR or do I make one 11x15 cake and split and fill??
Which would be sufficient??? This is for a retirement party.
I'm very new to this sheet cake thing....thanks!!!

From what I've read - two layer 11x15 cakes feed 60
Here's the chart I read:
http://home.comcast.net/~ksrank/Serving%20Size%20Information.htm

That would be 2 separate 11x15 stacked 4 cake mixes and it will be over 4" in tall, if you use 12x15 3 cake mixes 1 cake torted serves 45-50. Or you can do the 11x15 side by side to make one large sheet cake for 60.

(Do you mean a 12x18 instead of 12x15?)

I have 11x15 a 12x15 and a 12x18 12x18 will be lots more than you need. You said you needed 40 so the next size is a 12x15
What you need to watch for is what the serving sizes will be. Take your 11x15 and measure out the bottom of the pan 2x2 size servings which is party size pieces. The actual amt of servings for an 11x15 is 33 2x2pc / 12x15 is 45 2x2pc / 12x18 is 54 2x2pc . There is also a 12x16 pan but is hard to find which is considered a 1/2 sheet serves 48. When you do a wedding cake the serving size is smaller. I hope this helps.
