Any Ideas For A Non Themed Boy's 1St Birthday Cake?
Decorating By mhcl Updated 1 Feb 2013 , 9:28pm by KatieKake

Hi! I'm trying to find a cute cake design for my son's first birthday that isn't themed such as trucks, jungle..ducks. I'm more looking for some kind design that isn't just stripes or polka dots. I've looked at some online invites to get some inspiration but just haven't found anything that really grabbed me yet. So I'm open to any ideas, pictures, or even google words I should explore;o) My 6 year old daughter shares the same birthday as my soon to be one year old but she nicely let me know that there needs to be 2 cakes...which I agree;o) Thanks in advance!

These are a few of my favourites.
Oops - and another one:

AI really like the looks of cakes that are decorated as exaggerated cakes. Like this http://www.wilton.com/idea/Make-Some-Noise-Cake
Or present cakes. Or how about a #1 shaped cake?

AI just did a google image search for 'boy 1st birthday cakes' and there are a ton of great ideas.

Wow, thank you everyone for taking time to post your suggestions and links! I gotta say I google argyle birthday cakes and found a really cute one that even had a tie and mustache on it! Haha! I was planning on buying/making him one of those cake smashing outfits with the iron on tie so that would fit it great! My husband thinks it"s funny that I'm already thinking about this (their birthdays are the end of February) I'm thinking "I've been thinking about this since we found out he was a boy". Haha!

AI know the feeling. My daughter was born on Halloween, and I've been planning her first birthday party (cake design and all) in my head ever since! My son turns 3 feb 24, and I've been slowly working on party favors and gathering cake supplies for 2 months. :)

Ah, a Halloween baby! How fun! Trick or Treating will be extra fun every year My other kids, the day after their birthday, are planning their next year's birthday cake!

AI'm a Halloween baby and it is definitely one of the best birthdays to have, as a mom you'll never be stuck for theme ideas!

My cat had a litter of five kittens a few halloweens ago and it's definitely been a hoot!! (Get it?) Last halloween I dressed them up as the Harlem Globetrotters LOL!! MEOW!!

It was!! I'll get them up as soon as I figure out how to plug my old Kodak into my computer.

How about a toy box on the cake, with toys in the box as well as scattered around the toy box, Did one for a friend little boys birthday and they loved it, I think it might have been a Debbie Brown cake , from one of her books. Not sure, but it was quite easy, just make your box out of fondant, front and back sides, two ends and a cover, Dry for at least 24 hours glue together with royal icing, model toys to go in box and scattered around top of cake teddy bears, truck, ball, drum, blocks, train cars,
