We have a brand new walmart super store that just went in. My friend and I brought home a brochure from their bakery to look at wedding cakes they offer. Has anyone heard of buying a wedding cake from walmart or as far as that goes safeway, Fred Meyers , etc.. I'm curious if they stack the cakes and then the customer picks them up and carries them out to the car that way? What kind of supports would they use? Do they box up individual tiers and have the customer stack them. If so who doesn't the trim work? I live on a hill and won't ever stack and take down our hill. Even if someone tried to convince me with proper support they would stay put More than likely I will always have some kind of trim work.
Anyway this has my curiosity up. I will ask when I go in but thought someone else might have some insite .

A neighbor's son had his wedding cake from there.....she went to pick it up, it was a 3 tiered round cake, all assembled and in a huge box, just take it out and serve. This is how our Walmart does theirs, I would assume that they all do the same things.

Publix delivers & does some on site set up

wow, I'm a little shocked I guess. why then do we all freak out ( well some of us LOL) when we have to travel with our cakes ? What do they know that we don't.
so what would happen if it fell over going around a corner or down a hill?
Hummmm

I work for walmart, our 2 tier cakes come in their own box, the top part is iced on a cake board then slide onto a plastic thing that has columns that actually go into the bottom cake layer. I have yet to have anyone come back and complain about their cake not holding up. : ) Honeslty, I havent done a 3 tier yet. the one I did the lady wanted it square (which i wasn't supposed to do but did anyways, in which i put holes into the cake boards where i would put the dowels through, then assembled, popped the wooden dowels through and tada! it was done. put it in a box the lady loved it. Sorry I wasn't TOO much help.
But just remember. even though 2 tiers are $48 and 3 tiers are $125. they ONLY have white and chocolate. We can not put lace or ribbon on that you bring it. we can NOT put on fresh flowers or anything that isn't already in our bakery.
It's a good price etc if you get someone that takes their time on the cakes, if you dont mind one flavor, if you didnt want lace or ribbon etc on it, and if you're broke like me lol
