I am wondering if anyone has had this problem as I am baffled on how to solve it. I am using a standard sized cupcake pan and standard sized (dozen) cake boxes with inserts. I have noticed that after putting the cupcake in the insert there is too much wiggle room. The insert seems too big for the cupcake. I am afraid my cupcake will not be safe in the delivery process. Does anyone have any suggestions or advise. Thanks

Yes - don't use them I don't. I use a smaller box and pack them in there. I save on packaging costs and my cupcakes NEVER fall over or smoosh.
Those inserts are a RIP-OFF.

Line your box with foam shelf liner. Cut it a bit small so the "legs" of the insert will still go in the box correctly.
I haven't tried this but it seems like it would work. I use tiny squares of the liner in my Wilton carrier and it keeps them from tipping over.

I love the cardboard inserts, especially the ones that have the little finger cut-outs. The cupcakes sit deeply enough that they couldn't possibly tip over and they keep the cupcakes separated enough so that they can't touch.
My inserts fit perfectly in my boxes, but if I had to use a larger box for some reason, I've found that a piece of Glad Press 'n Seal works like the poor man's non skid liner. It's just a bit tacky and grips the bottoms of the cupcakes.

It's been my experience that there is no standard size for cupcake pans, liners, boxes, or inserts. I've had this problem with most categories but especially bundt pans and 9x13 pans. There is no coordination amongst manufacturers. I try to measure before purchasing. (Some companies will send samples before you purchase a case.) For now, can you use a piece of bakery tissue wrap when inserting the cupcakes? That may take up the extra space. And I suggest you try other sources before purchasing again; eventually you'll find one that fits perfectly.

Thank you all for the wonderful ideas. I will try using a liner on the bottom of the box 1st. I have noticed that cupcake sizes vary so greatly and the quality of cupcake liners. I am using a cupcake pan that holds 3.8 oz of batter per cup. My cupcake liners are 1 1/2 x 2 " What are your cupcake sizes and what size are your liners? Someone on E-Bay was selling liners that were 2 x 1 3/4" tall saying that it was a sized used by commercial bakeries. Are there any cupcake liner brands you prefer over others ?

I think this is your pans more than your liners. I have 3 different cupcake pans. 2 have pretty straight up and down sides and 1 has a much wider opening at the top because it's for filled cupcakes. Measure the top opening and bottom diameter of your cupcake pans and then measure your insert opening. The insert opening should be about 1/2 between the top and bottom diameter. You will either need to find new pans or a new insert supplier.
I use brpboxshop.com and I have never had any trouble with their inserts for any of my pans but I agree the word standard is a loaded word.

When my cupcakes are a little short for the inserts, I trim off some of the edges of the inserts before bending them to put in the box.

i go to a local paper and party supply shop they have the 12 count window boxes with inserts and they keep and stay. I had to travel 45 minutes to deliver some cupcakes and nothing happened to them it all depends on the box. i am getting some boxes for this weekend from the supply store i will look on the bottom of the box to see if any manufacture is listed and post on here.
it is hard to find boxes micahels carrys a 24 count cupcake box but they dont carry inserts they now have this tray thing with a cover for cupcakes but i know without the inserts they start to slide all over the place
