Anyone know where I can get some miniature colored LED lights to use in an upcoming cake? I have found the "floating tealights" but I am not sure those are small enough. I have seen several cake artists use LEDs here on CC and would love to get some feed back about where to purchase them, what size used and any cake decorating precaution I should take to use them.

Hi there! I'm not sure if this is really what you're looking for, but I used 5mm LEDs (I used 5mm because I needed them to provide a soft light inside a gingerbread house; 3mm would work just as well on the outside of a cake) on my Christmas cake this year and it was my first time using them. As someone who knows nothing about electrics, here are my tips!
- I picked up all the things I needed (LEDs, battery case, extra wire, resistor) from Maplins (an electronics store in the UK); I'm certain pretty much any specialist electronics/hardware store would stock all these things, and you can also order them online.
- Do your research! I spent a lot of time figuring out how many LEDs I wanted, and therefore what power sourse and resistor I needed. If you wire them wrongly you could blow the LEDs or have them not light up bright enough.
- I made my circuit food-safe by running the wires through a tube within the cake, but if something like that isn't possible for your design I'd recommend wrapping them in something. And it's a good idea to insulate all your connections with electrical tape too.

They're not colored, but Michael's and Joann's carry celebration lights in the wedding or floral supply section of the store. You twist them to turn them on or off; they are operated by a tiny battery. You could paint the cover of the light, I suppose, because whether you color it or not, you don't want it touching the cake. I wrapped the back part in plastic wrap before inserting it in the cake the last time I used them. The light cover part stuck out of the cake so it didn't touch anything.

You are looking for little individual lights, correct? These are available, but I don't know where to find them. But when I was married, the florist had flowers in large vases on the tables and put some of these lights in the flowers themselves (calla lillies). I thought it would be a cool effect for home arrangements, but have yet to find the lights.

i just found some tiny battery operated individual lights! i googled florist's led lights, if you're not in the UK you can scroll down and there are options to buy from sellers in the US -
