hi
I have tried googling recipes for buttercream icing and I had one years ago but cant find it...I know it had some crisco and butter and I used butter flavour from Wilton, icing sugar, etc, and I remember the flavour was amazing.
Does anyone have the recipe?
Also, can this be used for icing the cake as well as doing roses and a border on the cake? or does the icing need to be stiffer to do roses?
thanks!!!!!

Most any icing recipe can be improved by increasing the flavoring to at least one tablespoon - better yet 2 tablespoons per 2#s of sugar used.
Using a combination of 3 flavors is even batter. Try 1 part vanilla; 1/2 part butter flavoring 1/4 part almond.
"Part" can be any measure you want
Want to make up a big batch to keep on hand? Use a cup vanilla; 1/2 cup butter and 1/4 almond.
Want only enough for one use? The make it teaspoons instead of cups.

I use that recipe and but I use the three flavorings as suggested above, but the trick to cutting the sweetness is: add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of salt. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes. Add the smaller amount, taste it, then add more if needed. It really helps!
