I'm not sure if you're asking about the texture or the structure. For that cake I would build the base of the house as usual, then dowel the base and put the roof on it's own board. For the actual roof if you need the cake servings you can carve the shape out of stacked cake. If you don't need the extra cake, you can make it out of rice krispy treats and carve it. I use the pre-made generic treats.
For the texture they made strips of fondant and used a knife to score the edges to look like shingles. For the red queen's house in my pics, I used RKT for the shape, strips of fondant and a frill cutter to get the rounded shingles.
I hope that helps.

Thanks you so much for the response. It is the structure that I am looking for. I have stared at the picture for days and it just doesn't come to me. Thanks again for your help I appreciate it so much!

I would make the roof out of cake that has been carved/cut to shape, then just ice and decorate.
Just think of the house as a 2 tier cake, the "house" part is the bottom tier and the"roof" is the top.

When I made the roof of a birdhouse cake, I carved the cake on a cake board and then added the tiles on one at a time.
