Ya, so the title pretty much speaks for itself! It wasn't a big deal on my part as it was just one of my course cakes (the bow one in my photos) BUT... We had literally eaten only one 1inx1in slice out of it, and the rest of it went to the dog.
Needless to say he puked all over the house last night and is not in DF's good books! It was a fondant wrapped gingerbread flavoured DH cake, iced with BC then fondant!
I calculated it and figure the dog probably had a whopping 6000 calories in that entire cake as it used almost a full recipe of MMF! Yikes! Ah well!
I couldn't even take a picture of what the result was as the dog ate the WHOLE thing, minus one piece of blue fondant ribbon!
Hope he enjoyed it!

That is awful. My dog ate a big hunk out of a cake I was making for one of my classes a couple of years ago. It was cooling on the table and he decided that he needed a treat. I was soooo mad, but I left it where he could reach it, so it was my own fault. Needless to say, I didn't leave anymore cakes within his reach!!

I totally understand you guys! When I was making my cake for Christmas my ferrets were climbing my pants to see what that sugary goodness was comming from, it was hell on four legs!

Stop it! You guys are killing me!! The visuals are too funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is your dog okay today? I'd be worried about that much MMF making him really sick (that fact he was throwing up is probably a good thing), luckily the cake wasn't chocolate

Which is WHY I don't own a dog and WHY when I DO dogsit for my son (see? I'm not an animal hater) "Winston" (named after Winston Churchill) must go to his kennel and "rest" a while! LOLL OR, I simply tell my son to find another dogsitter for that day!
That was a really good story, though! Poor doggie, I bet he won't even WANT cake for a while. Talk about negative reinforcement!

As far as it being negative reinforcement, I guess it would depend on the dog. I have a Weimeraner and a few years ago I made a strawberry 1/4 sheet cake for my sons birthday, well she got into it and ate 1/2 of it. So I made another one, well she ate about 1/4 of that and 2 pumpkin pies. She still tries to get to my cakes when I bake. I really have to watch her and make sure she isn't anywhere near the kitchen when I am cooking.

I don't mean to laugh whaley, but I just went through the same thing! Our dog stole DD's smash cake last week!! The picture is in my photos...luckily I took the pic before he got this tummy full of it!!
He had green BC all over his face and paws!!! I was soooo mad!!!!!! He got in trouble and had to stay outside for the whole party!!!

These stories are funny, I hope ya'll don't sell cakes with pets in the house. EWWWww.

I found out I can't leave my greased cake pans out without locking the cat out of the room. I found out he likes to lick the grease off the pans. Normally, my cats never come around when we are in the kitchen or eating in the dining room since they have never been fed people food. Who knew.

I feel for you! The first time I ever went to decorate a cake was for my daugther's 4th birthday (3 years ago). The first cake stuck to the pan so I had to bake another cake real quickly an it came out perfect. The next morning I couldn't find it.(except for crumbs) The dog had ate it!
Luckily I hadn't decorated it yet.

i own a lab, they are the worst when it comes to people food. THe first time she ate a gaint laof of bread shaped like a rabbit, then a bag of oreos, a bag of wilton chocolate, two of my kids easter baskets, of the worst time was a package of wilton gumpaste. this did take her 5 years. but shes never gotten sick. i kinda wish she would of maybe she would have learn a lesson. OH! she loves the NFSC Shes got those several times.

If we did sell cakes out of our homes, I'm sure I can speak for everyone, that we make SURE our pets aren't near the cakes. It is possible to have a pet and make a cake not full of dog hair! Anyways, nobody has ever died from it!

My dog doesn't come in the kitchen while I bake. She lays on the floor in the other room and at me the whole time. Never have had a complaint, but I'm a clean freak. I'm not worried that she's in the house.

My labrador ate a chocolate cake that I'd made with 70% cocoa chocolate. I rang the vets as soon as I realised (it was fairly obvious!) and got her in straight away. I estimated she'd eaten about 100 - 200g. The vet said 167g would be fatal for a dog her weight. I had to pay to have her stomach washed out which cost £250 (about $400). Now my poor darling dog is terrified of the vets - but oddly enough seems to show no fear of chocolate cake!

Oh no!! I'm glad she's OK!!! As far as she's concerned, it was the vet that was bad for her, not the chocolate cake!!! LOL!!!

WOW! Everyone on here YELLED at me because my husband SMOKES in the house..... I can't believe they are reading this and not screaming the house down !

I have to admit that out of the two I would rather eat a cake that had a dog or cat in the kitchen then someone smoking.
I'm so anti smoking that the thought of someone smoking near where food is being cooked makes me sick.
But I'm sure there are many people who gets sick at the thought of a pet being in the kitchen when someone cooks. I'm a BIG animal lover so that doesn't bother me in the least.
Funny how people are different.

That's because it's already been hashed and rehashed. It seems both sides are just agreed to disagree. lol

I don't own a dog...but I can just imagine the irritation, but later the hilarity of the situation! Oh my tummy is hurting from laughing so hard...

I was in a bakery here in france the other day and there was a dog in the bakery!!! That wasnt so bad because people are allowed to bring their dogs almost everywhere here. The thing that made me walk out is when the dog went in the the actual baking area and when i told the cashier she just shrugged and said he always goes back there. Ewwww

Omg... Thank god i havent been the only one!
I had a flat out week at work with 8 wedding cakes plus I also had to make a cake for the end of season for my under 9's that I coached aswell as my twin brother and sister had their 15th... So working late hours at work I baked the two cakes I had to do for myself at work. Came home and covered them and then went to bed for a few hours sleep and got up at 4am to decorate them. My under 9's cake I made a rep of their jersey and piped all their names all over it... and then for my brother and sister's cake I had one half one footy team and the other half in the other footy team (they both go for different teams).. It was going to be a supize for my lil bro and sis as they were at dads so they didnt know a thing..
I Finished them both and only had 20 Minutes to get ready for work... and as I was getting ready the dog had opened the door and sat at the table.
As I walked out to grab my bag and leave for work she had finished 3/4 of an 12" Round kahlua choc mud cake! I was so angry I through the rest of the cake at her (missed tho coz she was out that back door so fast haha)... When I told my bro and sis and they didnt believe me unitl they saw cake crumbs all over the backyard... so I had to go buy a dry cake from the cheese cake shop

These stories are great. I have three dogs, and everybody I do cakes for knows they are here and aren't going anywhere! My 90 lb boxer eats chocolate all the time!!!! I used to keep a big glass jar, like in a candy shop, of hershey's miniatures on the coffee table. That is until he pushed it off the table and ate everything in it, wrapper and all. Not once, but twice! Probably 2-3 lbs of chocolate at a time! He also ate a whole box of Godiva chocolates that I had bought for my husband (who is a chocoholic) for christmas. It really never seems to bother the dog. Although, after the Godiva incident, I decided he had developed to expensive of a taste!
