I had to make a butterscotch cake because that was the only instant pudding flavor in my pantry. Now I'm thinking that maybe it wasn't the best choice for a cake that will be served at a play group tomorrow. What filling goes well with this cake (made with white cake mix)? I'm so new that I can only think of chocolate but I don't want it too sweet. Thanks!

When I make butterscotch cupcakes, I frost them with maple butterscotch buttercream. It would probably make a pretty good filling, too. Add melted butterscotch chips and a splash of maple extract to your regular buttercream or cream cheese frosting. Or you could do just butterscotch or just maple. Good luck!

Try a chocolate mousse like filling so its not as rich.
Or do butterscotch on butterscotch
Use this recipe but sub out the vanilla for butterscotch (or just use vanilla!)\\

Good luck!

I use butterscotch buttercream icing as a filling for butterscotch cake. Just melt some butterscotch chips and add to your buttercream. Everyone that has tasted it raves about it.
