We have an order for frosted sugar cookies for wedding favors. They are to be bagged and tied with ribbon individually. Has anyone done this? We have no clue what to charge for bagging and tying, if they provide the ribbon and/or if we are to find and purchase it. Help!!
I do cookie favors for a lot of events. I buy the pack of clear bags from my local cake supply store but Michaels and joanns carries them too. Check the candy making area. Anywho, I usual ask my client if there is a specific ribbon they have chosen.....usually that's a no so then I ask about colors. Then off I go in search of a perfect ribbon color. I usually use a zip tie (they come w the bags) and then over that w ribbon. I usually make a tag to go on the ribbon too like thank you or whatnot....my cookie price alone is $2-$4 depending on the design. If they want them wrapped, tied, and tagged I charge $1 more per cookie. I'm in FL in a pretty high end area so not sure my process fly for everyone. You really need to price out what it costs to make and package each cookie including your time to get an accurate amount to charge!

Do you mean twist tie instead of zip tie? They are two different things to me. A twist tie is a paper covered wire. A zip tie is plastic and you place one end of it through a hole in the other teeth. There are teeth on the plastic strip that grip inside the hole to hold it in place.

I'm pretty sure that she means a twist tie. Those are the ones that normally come with the plastic bags. When I thin of a zip tie, I think of what goes on a trashbag.
I have done favors before but I've never used the twist ties before. I can see where it would probably be much quicker but I've found it to make them more bulky and distracting when you want to decorate them. I've only used the tie ribbons which seems to come off much easier when trying to open them, yet it keep the bag sealed. (as seen in my photos)

I guess I do mine so different. I use a pretty paper, scrapbook, purchased in volumn for a discount. I cut that in half or so for about the samesize as the cookie. I place the cookie in a bag and fold the paper over the top and loop a ribbon thru. Underneath the cookie I have the thank you from the bride & groom, birthday person, etc. I do not have a shop and sell them but have done this for family and my kids holiday gifts and party favors.
I bag and tie all my cookies ( it grosses me out when people pick through unwrapped cookies to choose the one they like best, adults are the worst , they forget the take the one you touch rule! )
And it is alot of work to wrap and tie so for sure charge extra!
I do use scrapbook paper as well. I cut it to the size I need ( the width of the bag X 1 inch or what ever size I want ) roll down the top of the bag and fold the paper over and staple. The paper I can stamp with a message , picture , name ...

Those look awesome! I used to do something like that a long time ago - but I just used card stock with my logo on it and I didn't like it because I either had to staple or use double sided tape. So it looks like I need to use your method.

Ok, I do see the staples now - but they are hidden very well from the design under the word. I'll stop posting on this thread for a bit. LOL.
I do staple. I'd love to have a different way because I only bake for friends and family and school treats. I'm just waiting to get a call from school that someone got a staple in their finger!
The cardstock and ribbon idea is awesome but so much work. I'm not making any money off of them!

I like using these glassline bags. You fold them down, punch holes and tie a ribbon through.

I don't like the staples to show at all I will bake some cookies and do a photo Jlynn's how to. They are a bit time consumming but I am no in biz so... I have seen on some sites bags with a fold down flap. You pull the paper off and seal shut. Quick and to the point. I will work on cookies tomorrow. DH in college would love a surprise care package I bet!
Instead of stapling or doing the hole/bow method, you can fold the top down and use a pretty sticker to close it. You can make a nice monogram on your computer, print it onto card stock, punch it out and add some adhesive to the back.

They look tedious and time consumming but I do not find them any more so than tying a ribbon around the top. The cookies for this weekend have a rubber stamp image my DD did. The wedding cookies have had a footer with the bride and groom's name, under the cookie a special wish(thanks for sharing our day, it was sweet of you to join us, etc). I like having the paper behind the cookie. It really shows off the cookie, just like a nice background in a photo of a cake. You can get all fancy with using 2 or more papers, double stick tape, stamps, and embelishments of all kinds. I do not currently have a shop and so I do have all the time in the world to package. It find it fun. How you found it helpful.
