I know this has been discussed numerous times on the forums, but the search isn't letting me go past page 1 of the results.
I'm in a position to place an order at Global Sugar Art for pans. I've always had it in my head that I was going to buy Magic Line when I was able to do so. But looking at prices, it's obvious they're more expensive than Fat Daddios. Does anyone know why? I'm just wondering why I can get a 7 pan set (I'm going to buy 3" pans) of Fat Daddios for not much more than the 5 pan set of the Magic Lines? Are they a heavier guage aluminum?
From what I have read, for square pans there's no comparison and I should get Magic Line because of the sharp edges. Are Fat Daddios good for rounds? I'm trying to maximize my purchase and am considering both the even and odd pan sets (or maybe that's overkill and I shouldn't bother?) but to do that, it looks like either all FD or half and half FD and ML.
Anyway, enough rambling. Thoughts?
Thanks all.

I have only used one Fat Daddio's pan and was not a fan. I only bought Magic Line after that. You can get a good deal through Amazon right now with the 4 for 3 sale and free shipping. I just ordered 12 pans tonight and got 3 of them for free. You can get either FD or ML or both if you want.
Here is a link to the bakeware that is included in the sale:

Hope it helps!

I have both ML and FD pans for some of my small rounds. Prefer the ML. The FD pans have a rolled edge where the sides meet the bottom, not a crisp sharp edge. Cakes don't end up with a sharp edge.
There is also a difference in the bake times and the resulting outside browning. If I bake 2 4in cakes, one in the ML, one in the FD I can always tell which one cake out of which pan based on the outside color and the bottom edge rounding.

Here are the differences i know of.
- Magic line is a heavier gauge metal than Fat Daddio (as far as what gauge is used i have never checked personally and don't have the FD pan anymore to do so)
- Magic line has sharper corners in round and square pans than Fad Daddio
- Magic Line pans are made in the US, Fad Daddios is a US company, but their pans are made over seas.
- Fat Daddio pan has many shapes other than round and square. Check out their website www.fatdaddios.com to see all of the shapes. Magic line only has round and square/rectangle. I sometimes can find cake forms to use made by them (where you put them in the rectangle pan and then bake your cake in it, but i don't think they manufactur these anymore as I've only seen them on ebay.
and i forgot to put my vote in... Magic Line all the way (as you can see i already got rid of my FD pan i tried)

I have never used FD, but I love my ML pans. Can't imagine baking in anything else.

You might want to check prices on other websites too. I love Global Sugar Art since they ship fast and have a large selection... but when I was looking last week to buy ML pans, I found cheaper prices at and countrykitchenusa for the sizes I needed.

I love my Magic Line! Haven't used the Fat Daddios but after using ML I seriously only use all my Wilton pan for decoration

Thanks everyone for you input. You all confirmed what I was thinking and so I will be ordering some Magic Line pans this week.
And Marla84, thanks for the heads up about FondantSource. I'm actually going to be in their area for the holidays so that will work out well. They're out of stock on two of the pans I want, but I can order them from Global Sugar Art, if they're not expecting to get them before the holidays.
