Hi,

I would like to make a display of cupcakes. Does anyone know what is used to make the styrofoam edges look like cake? I really want them to look realistic. icon_eek.gif

Thank you!

Hi, i have to do this with wilton ,when i demo with cupcakes. I use either round styrofoam balls( you can check the sizes) cut in half. place in your cupcake holder . Ice with r/i. I also use great stuff. You spray your cupcake holder half full, next morning it is full like a cupcake. Keeps forever. Have some that i did 3 yrs ago for valentine and halloween. You can also buy fake cupcakes from the internet at the different supply stores. My friend uses these when we go to ices convention. Easy to take on plane. She also enters them in the state fair here like that. Of course you can also cover these with fondant, etc.hth

I make my own cake dummies, but haven't tried to make a cupcake dummy yet. Here is a link to pre-made styrofoam cupcake dummies from GSA. There are other sites that carry them too.

I might just have to figure them out! DH bought me a new band saw so I could make dummies and my cupcake towers, cupcakes are so small though, don't know if I want to risk loosing a finger! icon_cry.gif Hopefully someone else will have a better answer.

I've used Great Stuff also. I am ordering fake styros because I'm sick of trying to make my own. Dallas foam has them. A bit of advice with the great stuff. Use an old cupcake pan and put the cupcake papers in it. Be careful with the Greatstuff it grows really fast. It will take some experimentation but it will work. Also that Great stuff sticks to everything !

You can buy styrofoam cupcake dummies online from various places. www.kitchenkrafts.com sells them in quantities of 24 for under $24.

Hi all! That is great advice. I think I asked my question in the wrong way.

I have the styrofoam cupcake dummies. I want the styrofam to look like cake texture.

I have seen that people say to paint the sytrofoam, but that wont give the texture of cake.

There is always some cake showing on a cupcake & I would like to make it look real.

Any ideas? Or how do you do it?

They do make a product that you can use on styrofoam to make it look like frosting. They sell it with the dummys at different places online. But what you could do is go to the craft store and they make different types of faux finishing paints that can give textures. I think one of it is called Make It Stone or something like that. It will give you a rough texture and then you can paint it brown or whatever to make it look like cake. Also, at home improvement stores they make a spray for the ceilings to give it that popcorn finish when you make repairs. You can try that also.
