I was wondering if anyone knew how long Sam's icing lasts once it is opened? I asked the baker at Sams, but she confirmed the obvious - they use it all asap.
Thanks!

there is an expiration date on the label. It is usually a couple of months.

Don't look at the label that Sam's puts on it, there is a label on the side of the container with the expiration date on it. One night I was really tired and pulled it out looking at the wrong label and almost blew a gasket...until I looked at the correct label. icon_smile.gif

Whenever I buy Sam's frosting, I divide it into half-gallon tubs, date it and freeze it. It will last a long long time in the freezer, but I never it have it longer than a few months, 6 at the most. I only take out what I need at one time.

Incidentally, the vanilla is only so-so. imo. So I only buy it when I am strapped for time. But I LOVE the chocolate frosting. I don't make homemade chocolate anymore.

I don't mean to get off topic, but how do you get the icing from Sam's? Do I need to ask the bakery? I have heard only good things about the chocolate!

TIA

I just ask the bakery dept. The Wal=Mart in my area, at least one of them, will not sell it to me. Sams club does.

I can't get my walmart to sell to me either. When you go to Sam's make sure you ask for the right kind. They sell both buttercream and whipped. I have never tried their chocolate...do they only sell that in the great big bucket too?

I have some from last Sept, broke it down into smaller containers and froze it. Used some last weekend still a okay and tasted the same. Of course I only bake for family, don't know how long I would keep it for business cakes........
