You should just be able to write on the plaque with an edible marker or with edible "paint" (coloring mixed with vodka or vanilla or lemon extract)

Not to hi-jack your post, but I was wondering the same thing. I mean like when you have a lot of words to put in a small area (like a poem). I have a cake coming up next month for the relay for life cancer cake auction, and I want to affix the footprints in the sand poem to a plaque. I thought about an edible image, but I don't have the printer and I don't know if out local walmart does them (I know some do). I want it to be perfect, and I just don't think I could write all of that and have it look good. So any suggestions. Maybe that is kind of what the original poster was wondering also. I don't know.

would this work if i wanted to transfer a dinasour onto it and then use butter cream icing to color it in??
Would you consider the following ...
1.- print the poem in the computer
2.- reduce it to make it as small as you need it
3.- laminated it and put it in the gumpaste plaque
It is just an idea
I really thought about doing the whole dino in fondant and gumpaste Icouldjust take the rice paper and trace my design onto it then put it on fondant that is shaped like the dino and color it in or paint it, I think that might work? Sorry i just hijacked someone elses post, i had one on here earier and thought this was mine 
the great thing about rice paper is that you can kind of see through it.
For the "penguins emblem" on this penguin I used rice paper and just traced it with edible markers and cut it out and affixed it to the shirt of the penguin.
For the book cake, I put the rice paper over some lined paper (to keep everything straight) and wrote with an edible marker.........granted, the writing was freehand (but only because I didn't have ink in my printer or I would have printed it out so it was properly spaced and then I could have traced the writing)
but either way, it's pretty easy........get some edible markers!
Hi guys.... i know of someone who uses some sheet on her cakes to write name and mesgs....
n once u eat that part feels like a jelly like texture... it cant be anyting else but rice paper right?
Also the rice paper we get here is textured... the ones in chinese store.. is it the same or m mistaken ??
Do you mean the summer roll wrappers in the Chinese store that are round? If so, those are DEFINITELY not the type of rice paper being used here.
When I am putting something on a plaque, I use the edible image sheets. I use rice paper for "paper" like a birthday card for a cake or the tag on a present.
I can absolutely see using rice paper just wanted to offer other options.
