I have a good German Crumb Cake Recipe, let me know if you would like to have it.

Cake batter:
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp. instant yeast
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. salt
3 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 cup sour cream
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsalted butter
Crumbs:
2 1/2 cups cake flour
1 cup sugar gran.
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1/2 tsp. almond extract
Garnish:
Glazing sugar for dusting
Grease a 9x13-in pan
In a large bowl, combine the water, yeast, sugar, salt, eggs, vanilla and sour cream. Stir in the flour to make a batter, then add the butter and mix until it's fully incorporated. Cover and let rise in the bowl for 1 hour, 15 mins.
While the batter rises, make up the crumb mixture. In a med. bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Stir the almond extract into the melted butter and pour all at once into the dry mixture. Stir with a fork just until all of the flour has become moistened: set the crumbs aside..
After the batter's first rise, spread it on the prepared pan, and smooth the top with a spatula so that the batter is level. Sprinkle the crumbs over the batter and allow the cake to rise for 45 mins.
Preheat the oven to 350% F.
After the second 45 min rise, bake the cake for 35 mins, until a pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and cool on a rack for 30 mins before cutting into squares. Generously dust the top of the crumbs with glazing sugar before serving.
Yield:
twenty-four 2 in. squares.

Buddy actually used cake scraps in that episode. I tried making one myself cuz it looked soooo good. For the topping I just took cake scraps coarsley crumbled them up, added butter, brown sugar, little white sugar and cinn. mixed together till crumbly. Then I did what buddy did and made the mixture into clumps(balls but not really completely round) then put them on the cake batter in the pan pressed down so it would get in the batter. For the actual cake batter I just used a recipe I found on all recipes. I think pressing the "balls" or clumps if you want to call them that and pressing down into the batter was what made the cake so good. It wasn't just a topping!! hth

Cakeymom, sorry I did not see the Post about the Crumb Cake Recipe. I am going out of Town. when I get back I will look it up for You.

I have made this recipe from Recipezaar (now food dot com) for years...it is absolutely fabulous! It is used in my catering business with great success! Thanks for sharing it with everyone...I did not even think of doing such a thing, so I appreciate you doing it for everyone.

Thanks for posting your recipes
I love crumb cake,
the only one I make is the one from MS, its pretty good, but I add a layer of cream cheese before putting on the crumb layer, which adds a great texture and flavor to it ( or thats what everyone tells me who eats it )

It is illegal to copy it or I wold be happy to give it to you. You may be able to google it... someone may have posted it. The recipe should give you the toppings and a recipe for vanilla cake.
I did not know if it was or was not, as so many put Martha recipes, etc. on here and food dot com...certainly appreciate why they would not want that to occur.
Thanks!

Plenty of people post those recipes, but it is very easy to google it and see who posted it, and I don't want it to be me. It is pretty involved because it uses his vanilla cake that is made with pastry cream. Then the crumb is added. Some people on CC have made the vanilla cake and as long as you don't skip the pastry cream, the reviews have been good. I like the book. It is 50% autobiography and 50% cookbook.

Well, I ended up making the Martha Stewart one...it is cooling and I will serve it tomorrow morning @ church...hope it is as good as it smells (love the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg)...got the recipe off of food dot com. Will try the German yeast cake crumb one listed above for my family this week...will let you know how it turned out!
