I'm new to cake decorating and after completing all the Wilton classes I'm hooked! Is there anybody in North Carolina who knows where I can go for cake decorating/baking supplies besides Michael's or AC Moore? I'd love to find a place to get the high ratio shortening I'm reading so much about! I'm in Wilmington, so actually the Myrtle Beach area is good too.

There is a pretty good cake supply store in Clayton called NC Paper Company. It is downtown in an ANCIENT building, but they had a lot of cake stuff and paper products/party supplies. I don't know if they have sweetex, but I am going this weekend, and I will check.

I am not sure of your location but there is one in Ayden called Jones Cake supply or something to that effect. It's near Greenville

Thanks cakeandpartygirl for the post. My Mom lives in Ayden and I had not idea they had a cake store. I can not wait to visit the store. Thanks

I am on the outskirts of Charlotte and have yet to find one
I am going to have a look at this one in Greenville and see how far that is from me.
Thanks everyone!

Stop the Presses! LOL
This place looks wonderful and I am going to plan a trip over there soon.

The place isn't in a business area but behind their home. The first time that I shopped there I was a little apprehensive but I was pleasantly surprised and they have expanded since I have been there. I really liked it. They even had some out of date wilton pans that I as looking for. I am not sure what's it like now but I can only imagine it's for the better!!!!

Thanks, I am so excited about this. Will check it out in the next couple of weeks.

All of these posts are making me miss NC!! especially since they have a cottage law

Went to NC Paper Company this morning. They do not carry Sweetex. They do carry a high ratio shortening brand from CK products. It is a 3 lb tub for $10.99. They also have a pretty good selection of other things. LorAnn Oils, Magic Line Pans, Wilton everything, even found the sleeves of fruit filling there. Prices are higher than online, especially on cutters and silicone molds. But, overall a very happy place to spend an hour.

Jones Cake and Candy is nice. They have a lot of stuff. I am actually taking cake decorating classes there now. It's on Lee Street in front of a BBQ restaurant.

Well hello fellow Carolinians (if that's a word) !!!
I will keep my ears out and ask around my cake-friends in our area (Lake Norman)
I do hear Jones is a fabulous place - just too far for me to drive!

well charlotte has a few but I havent seen all their selections, there are sinfully sweet cakes (pineville-mathews rd), elaines baking and kitchen supplies (mint hill). The MDevitt studio thats in concord ( i still havent checked it out)

I'm in Holly Springs, Thank you for this info.
I'll check out NC paper company this tuesday.
I think I'll buy a lottery ticket so I can open my own supply store. Can't believe in this Raleigh area there are not wholesale or distributors who will sell to us.

There is one in Pineville. Sinfully Sweets on Pineville-Mathews Road. There is another in Mint Hill called the Cake Shoppe on Mathews-Mint Hill Road. I just found another in Newton but it is very far. Shirley's 3149 S NC 16 Hwy, Newton, NC.

I go to Hobby Lobby, Ben Franklin, and also Wal-Mart has a few things for cake decorating.

cakes etc.. is the only one I know of in Charlotte, there was Elaine's which became the cake shoppe but last I heard the cake shoppe was going out of business this month so that leaves us with only cakes etc.

Just an FYI - I tried the CK high ratio shortening one time. My BC was horrible. I had to throw it out.
