What Type Of Oven Is Best For Baking Cakes? Gas Or Electric?

i think the best is what you are used to and know how to use. a lot of people swear by whatever they were raised with, whether its gas or electric.
xx

I use gas convection both at home and in the shop, love it. My home oven can bake on regular gas or convection and automatically adjusts the temp when you use the convection. Plus gas is cheaper to run than electric ovens

I have always heard electric is better. I, too, recently had to buy a new oven. Since I couldn't afford a dual-fuel I went with gas because I am used to it and I still cook more than I bake!

I have both electric convection and regular gas. I like both - for different things. For cookies, electric convecton all the way. I never, ever put a cookie in a gas oven. For smaller cakes - anything 12" or less, then electric. For really big ones - 16" I prefer gas. it is a moister heat and since those big ones bake a long time, I prefer the results in gas.
In my city, electric is cheaper than gas.

One that gets hot.
In our last home I bought a brand new electric convection and it was awesome. 4 months later we bought a new house and moved. LoL. Our new house has an electric with no convection. When I save up enough I'm going to purchase another convection oven.

Can you get a stove that has an electric oven but gas range? That would be perfect for me. lol I love how nice an electric bakes, but I hate an electric range. :/
Yes you can, but they are rather pricey. I have one on my wish list for whenever I re-do my kitchen! I am the same way.

I used to have gas, but when that stopped working I bought electric. I haven't been able to bake a decent (scratch) strawberry cake since and have to cover the tops of the pans with foil/baking paper as the cakes brown too quickly. Heat in a gas oven comes from below, electric from above and below. I know I can cook in mine with just the base heat, but I haven't tried it. Maybe I should! Still prefer gas though!

I am in the market for a new oven and am strongly considering a convection oven. I have read rave reviews about them. Gas is not an option as we don't have a gas line. I envy my mom's gas oven because her cakes are always so moist. Can anyone give me any other upsides as well as downsides to convection? Thanks!

Hi Patty,
What brand/model gas convection oven do you use at home? when you say that it can bake on gas or convection , do you mean with gas or electricity or do you mean is a gas convection oven, but the convection feature can be turned off.
I want to invest a nice home oven for baking cakes, pies and cookies (mostly cakes).
would prefer an oven that I can keep at home and a smaller version for taking with me when I travel.
Thanks,
Sue

I recently bought a new electric oven. Once in a rental house I had a gas oven and I hated it. My new oven has multiple cooking styles including convection, top and bottom heat, bottom heat only etc. I Use then for different purposed and when I bake the bread I actually change between cooking styles. And best of all it is one of these pyrolytic self clean ovens. I am still learning with it but am very happy so far. And self cleaning is AWSOME.
