Baby's First Birthday Cake Recipe?

I'm looking for a recipe for a 1st birthday party. The little girl's 'smash' cake would ideally be low sugar, etc. Any suggestions? I saw a recipe online a while ago but the ingredients were very unusual and not easily found. I'm not opposed to buying a few things that I might use in the future, but don't wanna break the bank for 1/2 tsp of an ingredient.

you can make your smash cake out of angel food cake. I'm thinking thats low sugar right?

I make a great applesauce cake or a banana cake for babies. Since the fruit is naturally sweet, you can cut down on some of the sugar that you put into the recipe.
